Bossman is letting me pitch a brand for next year's jackets and shit to carry in the shop, I need some outside the box ideas. No Northface, Patagonia...

It's kinda tough, we've got a lot of middle aged adults, but there's also a few highschool's in the area and a college.. its a pretty mixed crowd.

What are the best sellers currently and what is the average spend. This will allow you to see what styles are working and also what price range you can look at.

Remember its cool to have the steazy brands but if it does not sell then it’s not worth it. Better to pick things that will sell and make the shop money, which in turn may give you more opportunity to buy the cooler brands in the future.

Most of the Ride and Armada jackets we buy are big sellers. And also we like to keep the price of our insulated jackets anywhere from $150-$300
 
Strafe and flylow are both techy brands for cheaper than arcteryx, north face, etc. And they have styles that work just as well for moms and dads as they do for 19 year old jibbers.

As a few people said, its fun to carry all the cool stuff but it honestly does not sell. Our demographic that buys the cool stuff buys it online. Your average shop customer is extremely picky about their outwear (color mostly).

I'd recommend 686. Columbia actually has some great fitting outerwear that isn't super jerry-esque.
 
our demographic buys black/gray/blue solid jackets and black ski pants.. people dont like out of the ordinary stuff. What you think is cool in the park and what your friends wear does not sell in the volume you'd think and you'll be putting it on the discount rack taking a loss just to get rid of the stuff. stick to the staples and listen to the reps on what they recommend for your budget. Outdoor Retailer is next month so if your boss is serious about you being their "buyer" you should get a plane ticket and start planning how much you need to get through a season based on previous sales.

The fact that you are saying not to TNF and Patagonia means you know nothing... Patagonia is doing meeting this week and north face happens early january before OR.

Outdoor Research seems to be in the palette Very similar to both companies cheaper than Areterex but of similar quality! Marmot make some awesome jackets but their B2B is awful. 686 is more ski oriented but I think you would find more success with Spyder.

My shop routinely sells out of our salomon stuff. Mountain headwear is great for the more technical stuff as an alternative to arcteryx.
 
Holden is one of my favorites that I’ve been trying to get my shops to buy.

Icelantic has really nice outerwear, my favorite every day street jacket is my corduroy parka they make

Picture is another one (trying to go all eco friendly) but I think their stuff is a little too patterned for Mainers.

We got Picture gear one year for park crew and I've never seen gear fall apart so quickly. My pants lasted for a week.
 
So right now it looks like 686 and Flylow will be the top two. A few that have been mentioned like Arc and Helly Hansen we already have in the shop. Big help fellahs, keep em comin
 
I support all the FlyLow mentions. Basic designs like you said your clientele are buying, great tech features for the touring crowd, and lower price point than other big dogs like Arcteryx, TNF, and Patagooch.
 
Stockpile Vishnu thrifts and tell customers it'll be a great investment 10 years down the road once they hit Supreme status
