Im a Snowboarder...... But

okay ive boarder for many years and now, because of this website i want to try skiing.so my question is what is the best skis to learn on ( i would be trying tricks soon so probably twin tips?) and second are full tilts the way to go, even if im learning?

everything is appreciated and +k for all good responses thanks

the best skis are the cheapest ones... they will be trashed soon enough and you'll realize spending 500 dollars on skis was a bad idea when they're unusable in a year and a half.

This fucking site brain-washed me into skiing... fuck dat.

And I learned rails yesterday after 5 days of skiing :D yayay

My first day skiing I learned boxes

But when I'm hungover i'll still snowboard holla at ya boi cole world i lost

probably go for a softer ski like the atomic punx or something. and boots are more about how they fit you than what brand, look up some good bootfitters in your area and let them work their magic. boots are the most important part of the setup, all movement in the foot and ankle should translate to movement in the ski.

hahah oh man being an ontario kid I see too much of this. kids from toronto come to my hill and will do retarded shit on rails, but can barely make it to the rail in the first place cuz they suck at just skiing down the hill. they also never hit jumps. its the classic ontario jibber kid.

Haven't you been here long enough to know that the best boot is the one that fits you? And Full Tilts aren't really better than a lot of other freestyle boots

I snowboarded for 6 years before switching to skiing this year, this site and my friends had a huge impact on me making the switch. I'm so glad I made the decision to switch to skiing, I feel so much more comfortable on skis than on a snowboard. If you do switch, you will most definitely not regret it.

But to answer your question about what skis and boots you should get, find the cheapest pair of twin tips(that are in good condition). I bought my pair from a friend for $60, and then find a cheap pair of boots on ebay. I got a pair of rear-entry raichle's for $15(old as hell I know). Have fun man, skiing is the absolute shit.

k2 silencers from a couple years back, there so cheap u can get em for like 100 bucks easilly i got minr for ninety there so fucking durable compared to my new skis surface no times and there pretty nice skis

cheapest twip tip are the best choice, and if you think youre done growing you can buy yourself a high quality boot (ie fulltilt) that will last you a while but if you dont i say go with a cheaper pair

deff go get fitted for boots

i tried full tilt because of all the hype, didnt like how they felt, went with Technica instead because they felt more comfortable on my feet

like others said, learn to ski first, but it wont take long its way easier to learn than snowboarding, especially if your already a snowboarder you should know about edges and whatnot.

HAVE FUN!! and enjoy not having to strap in every run!!! =D

funny you should ask. i am in the process of turning my buddy from a boarder to a skier. now unless you are 100% certain you wanna really get into skiing, don't spend a bunch of money on new stuff to find out you don't like it. i say borrow some friends gear to try it out and learn some of the basics and if you're real stoked on it then find some used twin tip skis for yourself to have while you ride with your ski buds and then for boots, go to a shop and try on different brands cuz its all about how they fit your feet, not some pros. i wear nordica boots and my friend who recently converted fits into full tilts better than my nordicas, just the way the cookie crumbles. and ski sizes and flex wont really apply to you too much in the beginning until you start gettin real good at rippin up the WHOLE mountain. but don't go all out unless your ready to fully make the switch, just test the watters first cuz its kinda pricy. hope that helps

the black one with the knives? i have those and there pretty dope and i havent had any problems with them yet. but if your learning, get a shorter ski, like to your chin, it will help you learn better. dont jump right into park, learn the basics first. or else you will look uber retarded. try renting first to go on a test drive per say.

Abangs suck's, you don't want to learn how to ski whit them. OP but a cheap ski ( old ) ski and a boot that fit. Please learn how to turn before hitting rail/boxe. Have fun,.

Haha I know, I have a friend who just stared skiing this year, dropped 1200 on armada outerwear, SPK boots, suspects and shit, and his first day he went straight into the park, and didn't even try to learn the basic skills. The one time we tried to ski with him he couldn't make a single fucking turn..

Not if they are not well fitted! They are not better because e dollo and tammy wallnutz wear them, a well fitted boot is THE way to go

shut your fucking mouth. Full Tilts, are not the cure all answer.

Granted I have full tilts but there are many people that don't fit full tilts, and use other boots that are just as good. a good fitting boot will always be better then just say the brand everybody else is wearing,

not saying full tilts aren't great, but a good fitting boot is the best boot

that`s YOUR opinion, everyone love their kind of ski and you don`t know if he`s going to like abangs.

I snowboarded, got bored with it, and then found this site. This is my first season skiing and its already been wayyy more fun than snowboarding. I just bought some demo Jeronimo's after looking around on here and reading all the good reviews and they have served me great. Cheap and dont have to worry too much about them but still great skis.

definitely. that's how i learned. bought a set up of some used skis and bindings for prolly 25% of what they actually cost. same with boots. find something comfortable but used, which is what i did when i was learning. but you're right too, absolutely get some twin tips! brand of skis and boots and bindings don't matter for this year and prolly next year as you're still learning. hope this helps, have fun switching over to the winning side!

i find it funny that you just called him out for full tilts when you own a pair, theres a reasons so many people have them. 1 style 2 pro riders etc.... but they really are a versatile boot because of the liner and boot design = changeable tongues it increases the amount of different foot shapes and experience levelsthe only limitations on them are foot with and ankle with(i know there are more but those are the main ). personaly i own a pair of konflicts and they are my favorite boots to date, i also think they look sick i have the wood brown ones soo classy.

The kid I bought them off of, They did not fit his feet and they were quite painful, thus why I picked them up for quite cheap..

Full Tilts fit quite a few people, and with their new boots design the fit an even larger crowd. and granted I love how they are. But most ski companies boots for freestyle when fitted right will be great boots. Thus why you see tons of kids with Ace of Spaces, SPKs, and Dalbellos. I know another dude that wore SPKs because his feet wouldn't fit in Full Tilts or other boots, and he also liked that they have a 2 buckle design.

Full Tilts are great, I love mine. But they are not for everyone. When someone is trying to get into skiing, don't drop 100s on a boot that might not fit or is something you won't do very often. His best bet is to go to a used sports gear store or a ski swap, and try on boots that fit him at those places so he can buy something that is affordable.

Looks =/= Best Fit Possible. It's a plus, but not connected in anyway

welcome to the better half of snow sports get cheap skis to start and try out different types ex flexy stiff light heavy skinny wide untill you figure out what you like

thanks and my board is a custom made, practically a noodle all rails kinda board so im thinking flexible still not positive though.

depending on how fast you're picking it up, spend like three days just lapping greens and blues before you get in the park. buy some skis from a friend, they'll probably let them go for cheap. your local ski swap is also a good place to look. find something softer, it'll be more forgiving. and the best boot, as has been said a billion times, is the one that fits you best. if you buy one thing brand new, make it your boots. NS made me switch to skiing and i couldn't be happier about it, but buying used boots from a friend was an awful idea.

well..... that depends on what kind of skier youre going to be.

regular skiers do not destroy their skis that fast, even if they go into the park now and then.

100% park rats do.

theres a lot more to skiing than the terrain park so maybe get some decent all round skis

thanks i actually was about to buy a used pair this weekend ill post so go pro videos of me beginning.... just so you guys can laugh a bit ;)

thanks everyone for the help i really appreciate it

i was deep into snowboarding until i found out about this site and i lost all my interest in the boarding. got some AR7 skis and been hooked since day one.

dont start hitting rails until you can run a zipper in the moguls. mogul skiing is definitely the hardest part and focuses on total awareness and control of your skiing, so mastering it will grant you ultimate control in the park, trees, or gates.
