Free skis doesn’t mean you’re pro, buddy. Getting paid 10k a year doesn’t mean you’re pro (but you haven’t claimed that yet, so I doubt it ever got to that). I don’t think you realize nobody gives a shit if you’re a washed up “pro” or not. The only person that gives a shit about your cover of jerrymag from 12 years ago is the dentist on TGR forums who has 4 pairs of DPS skis and only skis 10 days a year.

Lol, this dude just sent me a private message to tell me how expensive his skis and jacket are and how good of a skier he is.

and i checked out your profile, seems your a well known troll. And i didn't say anything about my skiing. Why don't you just say I'm trolling and have no idea who or what I'm talking about.

never said I was pro. Unless you call coaches pros.

and yet youre still a whiny lil douche!

As a Mammoth weekender this is good for me. I have places to stay in Tahoe, so I will get to ski Squaw, my old stomping grounds. Revelstoke, Jackson and Big Sky are also places I have always wanted to go, and I love Alta and Snowbird. I don't travel much, spending 3 weekends a month at Mammoth requires a ski lease which costs me about 3k per year so I don't have much of a travel budget, but I can stay for free in Tahoe so this will make a trip there worth it.

On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of the ski industry being increasingly owned by two factions. I don't think that is good for skiing, despite how nice it will be to have my pass cover pretty much any lift ticket I buy.

looks like Mountain Collective raised 2018/19 to $409 (last year was $399)

no Telluride

But does add Big Sky.

Just bought mine, best bang for my buck still. Altabird, Snowbasin, JHole, Big Sky, Sun Valley. Those are really the only resorts I want, and the price is super fair.

Utah got the short straw on this one. I was hoping I would be able to get Alta/Bird on this so I can ski them and travel although eheath made a good point about revenue loss its like 1200 for an alta/bird so this would be a huge hit to them.

last season, it was Alta or Snowbird, this (and next) season they made it separate which is better, no?

man, if you live in CA or CO, this is a pretty solid pass (especially CA).. but they blew it by not at least putting deer valley unlimited at least on the $900 pass.. no one from Utah is going to buy this. (I only mention deer valley because Alterra bought them last year, so I would have assumed it was going to be unlimited access.)

Sorta.

The way this shit works is that the resorts negotiated these pass deals. DV probably only did 7 days because their pass is $2000, same with Jackson, alta/bird is like 1600 or something. These would be huge revenue losses for those resorts so they only agreed to a certain amount of days. Plus, these resorts don't need some big combo pass, theyre doing quite well on their own, maybe in the future it will change, but they didn't fuck anything up by any measure.

**This post was edited on Feb 22nd 2018 at 3:36:50pm

How did they not fuck utah skiers? more skiers and boarders at our resorts but it's not a pass for locals. I get the revenue argument but that doesn't make a utah skier feel better...

Back to the pass...does anyone have experience at Banff/Lake Louise/Norquay? I need to start research for spring 2019.

sunshine has a fantastic park. the rest of the mountain is a little flat but there are a few gems to be found here. lake louise is considered world class for a reason. the back side is especially fun with lots of natural hits and plenty of trees if you get caught in flat light. And norquay well.... it's not good for much except night skiing and messing around.

Awesome thanks for that. I'll have to check out their maps and lodging deals.

Also included with purchase of the ikon pass there is some limited springtime access as well for this year:

CAN I USE MY 2018-2019 IKON PASS TO SKI OR RIDE AT PARTICIPATING DESTINATIONS DURING SPRING 2018?

You can use your 2018-2019 Ikon Pass or Ikon Base Pass starting March 6,

2018 at Big Bear Mountain Resort, Blue Mountain and Snowshoe; and

starting on April 9, 2018 at Winter Park Resort, Squaw Valley Alpine

Meadows and Mammoth Mountain. Visit the destination’s season pass office

or ticket window and provide your identification. A lift ticket will be

provided for the day.

Anyone else fucking pissed about IKON? Here at Stratton, an unlimited season pass for my age group (18-29) was $350 for this season. Now with IKON next year, if I want unlimited I have to do the $900 IKON, which is absurd for the average person who isn't going to be able to afford going out west to take advantage of the other places. My other option is the Select, which is only Stratton and was bumped up to $450 and has 10 blackout dates, so more money for less skiing. God I fucking hate Alterra. Fuck this

Some win, some lose. I feel for east coasters and UT skiers. But as a Mammoth/Bear skier I’m stoked. Cheaper pass and more mountains. Flights to SLC are so cheap and frequent as well.

Oh god it's still cheap. Also it's not like you aren't close to other mtns. Doesn't mtn snow have a 350 deal still?

You can keep getting your stratton pas for a few more bucks if you want, and then when you start hitting more mtns, or they buy more places, get the full.

I get not wanting to spend more money but "im fucking pissed about ikon" seems like more of the fuck vail down with the corporations thing.

I agree with you. I have been buying their sunday season pass for like 10 years since its my only day off. Now i need to pay double to ski the same. Im hoping they come to their senses after seeing how much negative response they got over social media the last two days. IKON pass sucks for us on the east coast. If it included Mt Snow and somewhere with night skiing like Jiminy Peak i would have considered it. Looks like ill be leveraging my shop tickets next season and will not be frequenting stratton anymore.

People are going to bitch, people always bitch. Hell even if the pass was cheaper people bitch. That said, epic and icon will expand in the east. The options will get better and people will bitch less.

Will it be great for everyone? Of course not, but I think it will be positive for most people.

It's one of those things though, with that volume of people nothing will work for everyone. I think it will get to the point where there is a localized pass like the epic local. I think stowe got added to the epic local actually but could be wrong. But if they buy more resorts in the east those will be a thing.

No matter what happens, even if it's great for most people, their will be people it isn't good for, or people that bitch just because something changed.

Stratton and stowe weren't some tiny mom and pop resorts that got bought out. I'll probably never hit either on the passes, but I don't have a problem with them being added.

If they get a few more mountains the way vail does in tahoe or co I think people will complain less. If there were 2 or 3 epic and icon mountains in the northeast most people will be stoked, but you have to start somewhere. And change involves people being pissed off.

I think the point here is the options on the pass for the east are limited and a mountain that use to have a bunch of pass options just lumped them all into one. If the mountain collective went away and Ikon merged with that it would be a great buy for us East Coast people.

Yes, people bitch i understand that, its human nature to resist change. The flip side is if they dont sell as many passes this season that will speak louder than words in social media. I, and im sure im not alone here, am already researching my options and have put stratton's select pass as the last option if it needs to come to that. Their terrain is not the most challenging and I dont own property there forcing my hand so it'll come down to value most and that is a decision I have to make, even if that means i end up spending more on Mt Snow via the MC pass or even just getting the Gore pass just to make a statement with my wallet to stratton that i didnt just cave and buy into their new structure for season passes. I dont NEED to buy passes for reasons but still purchase one out of convenience and support of the industry that has given so much to me already. I just find it hard to swallow the extremely elevated cost.

I feel you. I'm not saying you're bitching just to bitch, but I do think they will add mountains and better options. It says that epic added stowe to the local options which is pretty big. They're competing to icon will have to offer more riding or a cheaper option. It's the first year of the pass though so I think it'll be what it is for this year, and we'll see for the next.

Mt snow has some good deals. Idk what gore has these days. Full season has gotta be over 700 though. I know they had a teen deal that was like $350 for a while though. Maybe if you get a gore only you get a deal.

Idk. They'll add stuff though. Epic pass broke into the east coast market, icon is following Can't expect it all to settle on the first season

im a real ski bum

have had a free pass for 21 seasons now

8 silver, 30 days at every ut resort,

i have 3 sets of free dps skis

and a dozen free pm gear sticks

and i get pro deal at the dentist

when do i get my orange name?

But it also is replacing the Max pass, which was dope for the northeast. Now instead of 5 days each at Loon/Sunday River/Sugarloaf, I would have 5 or 7 days total between the three. It cuts out some of the closer mountains for me and only added Sugarbush and somewhere in WV. I can see how it is cool for california and colorado like everyone is saying, but it is replacing a better pass for the east with a more expensive one. That's enough reason to turn me away, which sucks because I was stoked for this.

So as a MAX Pass holder from New England, where do I go now?

MAX Pass seemed to be by far the best option for the Ice Coast. Now that it's gone, which pass should I get for next season?

I'm from MA, usually find myself in NH for day trips and VT/ME for weekend trips.

I'm in the exact same boat, have been considering making a new thread for EC skiers to discuss. MAX pass basically made it affordable/viable for me to go skiing every weekend (I live in downtown Boston and weekend it to various NE resorts)

Now I have no clue what to do. The New England Pass might be the most convenient but its a butt load of money and Ikon just doesnt give nearly enough days. Not sure what I'm going to do yet

The usual. Christmas week, MLK weekend, President's weekend. Thats it.

Yup:

Dec. 26 – 31, 2018; Jan. 19 – 20, 2019; Feb. 16 – 17, 2019

Not bad really, xmas and new years day are go, and it's just Saturday and Sunday on the holiday weekends, which is pretty good, my kids have the whole week on one side of Presidents day and those dates are always packed anyway.

I don't see Front Rangers making the extra slog over that pass to get up there. They will stick to Winter Park and Copper unless they decide to be Epic along I-70.

Also steamboat has one of the largest uphill capacity in the country. You guys can push like 34,000/hr. So plenty of room for more

Well dipshit, I guess you were wrong cuz we just got a new gondola to address the very issue i was talking about. You want to tell me more about how great our uphill capacity is? Because i think they just spent about $10 million dollars to prove me correct. I'll accept your apology in writhing.

That’s awesome. They are going to be able to fit so many more skiers from Denver on to your mountain now.

Maybe they will expand parking next to fit more people.

What’s the cost of the cheeseburgers you make this year?

No i'm saying you like talking shit about other people because i guess it makes you feel good about yourself? Maybe, I have no idea, I only post positive comments on vids and photos. If i don't like it, I just go on with my life and say nothing. Skibum up there talked shit first about how we didn't need a more lift capacity in Steamboat, then Alterra built us a new gondi, I guess i was kinda right in my assessment of the situation. Mr. Skibum started talking bunch of shit about "skibums" w/o and any irony in using that name to do it. All the rest of this shit show was only to somehow explain that i've been in the game for a long ass time now. It's always people standing on the sidelines criticizing someone who's obviously been around to build up their own self esteem. Also please don't post any vids of you sucking yourself off.

This is my favorite thread ever.

Do you really want to see videos of me skiing groomers or bumps on the weekends? Because that’s my skiing these days. With an occasional cat or hell ski or skin here and there.
