this morning got a notification that our edit got video of the the day



got off work and now the realskifi vid is though?



our vid still has more views, upvotes, and comments atm, so whats up with that? Not a huge deal at the end of the day but confusing to take VOTD away, kinda makes it feel like it's not even worth uploading shit to NS anymore if orange names are gonna get preference and even more of an advantage then the high vis username already gives them

My guess is they got VOTD yesterday and you got VOTD today, it should go to the player tomorrow.

Also to clarify, nobody is selecting that spot, it's all based on an algorithm. Advertisers can pay for that spot, it is possible to manually change it, but almost every time that spot is filled based on the algorithm.

What parameters are taken into account when the robot chooses the vid? Just views, ctr analytics, engagement? As mentioned before I’ve seen some dope vids get lost in the algorithm simply because orange names upload around the same time and immediately have more “clout”

Orange names have no preference in the algorithm, if thats what you're implying. They attract more views, comments and upvotes because there name is orange, but thats still humans clicking buttons, its been like this for awhile man,

that doesn't seem like the case, plus our video was uploaded a little while before there's but both on the same day. What would make the VOTD algorithm pick a second vid, especially when all the criteria for engagement seemed higher on ours

As Evan said, 99% of the time the algorithm picks the VOD but we do have override too. It never picks a second video on the same day, so if it does change it is because one of us changed it. That can either be because we have a paid placement to fulfill (sad reality of running a media company and trying to break even) or because a video is trending in real time (which the Real SkiFi one was, though it did much better on social than on site in the end). In your case, we did switch the video out, but I have the link saved and reminders set to switch it back in to VOD slot in the next couple of days. Apologies for the confusion caused and great work on the edit.

appreciate the response, totally get that you guys have to pay the bills. tbh though I do think it's kind of wierd and confusing to modify VOTD based on whats trending outside NS and essentially put curated content into what pretty much everyone assumes is based on engagement without letting ppl know it was curated

It's more-so an editorial choice, that top spot gets a lot of eyes, sometimes we wanna push something we think the community should see, thats how it was when I was involved.

I get that just saying it's kind of a weird way to execute that, I'd personally rather see NS go all in and display curated content in a full article or something instead of how you guys are explaining its done now, feels kinda half-assed and not very transparent (hence the confusion leading to this thread).
