IF3 - TANNER HALL IS A CLASSLESS IDIOT

Let me start this off by saying that I've been a huge Tanner Hall fan for years. He's a great skier despite the irritating image he puts on. Tonight changed my perspective completely. I was at the IF3 premiere for "Believe" tonight and Tanner, Kye, Sean, etc were on stage introducing the movie. Tanner was drunk of his ass and slurring his speech and would grab the mic out of the event organizer's hand. Every second word out of his mouth was "fuck" in front of a croud which included many children. Just classless, not cool. Just to top it off, after the show the idiot was so drunk he spilled beer all over himself as he tried to take a sip. He also refused to take a picture with a fan (who by the looks of it was 13-14 yrs old). Anyways, the guy's an asshole plain and simple. There's nothing wrong with drinking and swearing but I mean come on, it's your movie premiere can't you wait a few hours to get wrecked? Great job Tanner, you're an inspiration... :|

One less fan for Tanner...GO DUMONT

i'm glad someone else sees it too....not that i've seen him like THAT but in all his interviews after a halfpipe run hes just seems so dumb and fake acting like he appreciates all the fan support and shit...stfu tanner. and who the hell is named TANNER?!?

of course he is...he's deffinately the #1 innovator in freestyle...what I'm saying is for someone of that level and with so many fans he ruins it with his shitty attitude. too bad

ya dude i totally agree with your opening statement thing, i only said hes a good skier cuz i was the one saying bad shit about him like 2 posts above that. hes an ASSHOLE but hes a good skier, but his assholeness overpowers his skillz to me

That's where you're wrong man...nobody chooses to be a role model, you BECOME a role model through what you do. In Tanner's case, through his sick skiing, he's become a role model, but failed.

i like tanner but what else would you expect out of someone who droped out of high school and has smoked himself stupid.

agreed. there are responsibilities that come with being the best at something and in such high visibility. not any less respect for him as a skier, just confirmed my suspicions of him being an asshole and prety immature

Actually, i looked up to tanner as a role model until probably two years ago when I realized how much of a bad example he is. Amazing skier, bad influence...

not true, sponsors sponsor people who they think will sell their product. being good at skiing is the main factor in that but NOT the only one...

Oh come on, man. You have never emulated a pro skier before? Most of us on here can identify way more with pro skiers than we can with various humanitarians. When you're trying to define yourself as a teenager, the vast majority of people are more likely to look up to Tanner than they are to any of the various high-profile humanitarians.

Tanner is in the position of a role model, but he is quite smart enough to pull it off, which really sucks for the sport because his skiing is so incredible.

No... I actually agree with this guy. I think Tanner is badass, and kills it at skiing, and his "I don't give a shit" attitude is great.... but not in front of kids. Like, there's a time to be sloppy, and a time not to. When you're premiering a movie, and being an inspiration to thousands of kids, that's not the time to curse, and be a dick.

not true

if a kid admires tanner because he won gold at the x games theres nothing wrong with that, until they see the other non-skiing side of him

Not every other skier is the World's best skier. Multiple time X-Games Champion in both slopestyle and Pipe, etc, etc. I'm not doubting he's a good guy. I'm just saying there's a time to party, and a time to not. It's not hard to just be a little drunk for your premier, then as soon as it's over get fucking destroyed. And when you're that drunk, you can lay low. Instead Tanner jumps on stage letting everyone know how drunk he is.

And whoever says skiers aren't role models are fucking stupid. If skiers weren't role models, or if kids didn't look up to them Tanner wouldn't be making six figures a year. Why would Oakley, Armada, Dalbello, RedBull, etc. pay Tanner if no one was influenced on what he does.

yeah, Tanner was an idiot, I thought he was tryin to clean up his act and become a better role model, but whatever, he's still an amazing skier

ps i dont know who you guys choose for role models but if you dont want them to drink than look into politics.

straight edge pop collar polo dudes can stick to soccer or whatever.

It's not about drinking, everyone drinks, it's about goin on stage and being a drunken mess and acting stupid when tons of kids look up to him

yet companies usually choose people for the image he represents, not just how he skis. N being at IF3, he wasn't a gr8 image

Exactly. Tanner doesn't try to do shit. HE doesn't make the choice whether or not kids look up to him. But, he should be aware that whenever he is in public at a skiing event people are watching him, and chances are they look up to him.

why should kids not look up to a dude that gets drunk and acts stupid? i hate to bring up this paralell again but in skating pros get wasted and fuck stuff up all the time and noone thinks any less of them, i personally dont want to look up to some guy that trains every day to be the worlds best or whatever. im into the guy that drinks and doesnt give a fuck then kills it harder than anyone on the hill

na mean?

Yeah, but 13 year old kids are probably the easiest people on the planet to influence. They see something that is cool, or popular, and they try to be it. Exactly why kids so young drink, smoke, etc. And skiing is more of a culture... not just an activity. Kids wear baggy cloths because Tanner does. Even if people don't think they are influenced, they are. It's almost impossible for something to be truly original or uninfluenced by the people they look up to.

i didnt realize i was dealing with the m.a.d.d of skiing. im just gonna step out of this one and back into the real world.

yup, skiing is an alternative sport. thus, we are not governed by the rules of a national sports league. it is the "i dont give a fuck" attitude that started this sport.

He was at Triple Threat in Seattle last year, but just hung out in his small posse and had drinks, didn't even talk or appear anywhere to meet the crowd that showed up for his movie. Kinda an ass if you ask me, I wouldnt put what supposedly happened past him based on what I've seen. Shits not cool in front of your fans, especially little kids.

yet the thing i realize is that doug is pretty fuckin wasted but yet i think he's way more respectful than tanner

Haha... It was definitely expected from Tanner. And why there is a thread about it? Because I think people notice it at different times. Like, I realized a few years ago that Tanner definitely doesn't kill it off snow... constpapa probably just came to the same realization.

I disagree. What started this sport was people tired of the same old shit. They wanted to do what they wanted to do. They did it respectfully. Maybe they didn't "give a fuck" about racing anymore, but they still weren't belligerent about it.

true. but from my experiences, i would say the majority of ski culture gets fucked at ski movie premiers. and that is nothing new.
