If you're using a multi blade razor to shave, you're missing out

So like most lazy bums, I've been using your typical Gillete fusion for my daily shave. Then one day my friend suggested a safety razor: (aka double edge):

My mind was blown. This thing was so comfortable, so smooth on my face, i looked forward to shaving every day. I dont know why everyone doesn't use these things, they have cheaper replacement blades, and give you a closer shave. Pair it with some shaving soap:

i started using one this year, Im never going back to anything else. fucking fantastic, blades are like $.50 each too. I just gotta get my technique down
 
is there a major difference in the way you physically shave? where can I buy one of these nice looking devices? im too lazy to google and I dont know shit about it

Amazing shave (after the steep learning curve) and I get to feel like a boss.
 
Really the only thing you have to do is use no pressure . These things basically do all the work for you if you just let it glide across your face, using the weight of the razor.

threads.. like everyone else has asked what is the learning curve and does anyone have recommendations on what soaps and razor to use?
 
Is it actually better or is this just a hipster thing? I'm inclined to think there's a reason Mach 5 was invented
 
The learning curve is basically non existant. I havent gotten cut once, and basically the only thing you need to do is use little to no pressure.

You can also go sideways to your grain ( which i couldn't do with multi razor), because you're not gonna get as many ingrown hairs or razor burn with it.

Multi razors tug at hairs more than they slice them, this thing actually cuts them so you dont get irritated, its niiicee
 
not as good because you have to set the edge all the fucking time and sharpening is a bitch. safety razors are better

even if you don't get the razor, at least get the brush + soap. you'll never go back and it's a lot cheaper
 
The best part of shaving with one of these is after your done with the blade you can use it to break up your crack rock. These things make Gillettes feel like shit especially of you like to grow out your beard
 
haha youre very right. the reason is so they can charge you 20 bucks for a pack of replacement blades
 
I use this one. For some reason, the badger hairs sometimes fall out, so Im not sure if it was just my brush because I read the reviews and it works for everyone else.

Just make sure you dry it hanging up so the hairs are pointed down.
 
i disagree i think strait edge is a better shave. it is harder to upkeep and it took me about 100 tries until i could do it correctly with out cutting my face off, but once you get it nothing else in the world makes me feel more manly then when I'm shaving.
 
Who the fuck would want to cut their face every day for over 3 months just to use to learn a different kind of razor correctly?
 
safety razors i can see being useful / better than multis

but a straight blade... why would you go through the hassle every day? seems like a lot of effort just to use a cool blade you saw in a mafia flick once.
 
I was asking a question. There are plenty of things that people do which are less practical just to be different or seem cool. I don't think my question was offside
 
whatchya gotta do, is budget 45 minutes every morning to roll to the barbershop and have someone else do it for you.
 
Are you fucking kidding me? Nobody is going to take the time to shave "properly" with a straight razor when it takes 2 minutes with a Gillette Fusion unless they want to brag about it later and tell people how sophisticated they are with their "perfect" shave. Yeah, I'd say it's a hipster thing.

Can you really not see that many people actually want a close shave and not rip their face off and throw money away with shitty disposable razors? Why would anyone drive a stick shift unless they can get from point A to point B with an automatic, unless they just wanted to brag about their driving skills. See how ridiculous your shit logic is?
 
Well, driving a stick is much more fun than driving an auto. If you really consider shaving a "fun" activity, and not just a daily nuisance, then more power to you, but I'm gonna go ahead and assume that 99.9% of people don't feel that way.
 
I just rock the dollar store packs. I had one of those at one point, don't know what happened to it. The dollar store ones work for me. Lol at paying insnae amounts of loot for the gillette ones, such a fucking ripoff.
 
that analogy seems backwards. the stick shift would be your razor and the automatic would be the gilette because it is faster and easier.
 
imma jump in here and say that a non-irritating shave is more enjoyable than an irritating one, and multi-blade disposables are really frustrating in that aspect.

that being said, a nice electric is the most convenient, least irritating shave, but doesn't leave your skin stubble free.
 
I think the main reason a lot of people do it is for a little better shave, but also to try to eliminate a lot of the razor burn. I get MAD razor burn with multi blades so thats why I'm looking into another option. Also I get really bad five oclock shadow so if I can get a closer shave that is a positive as well
 
*99.9% of young adults who are still immature and have not yet developed an appreciation for the finer pleasures in life. Choosing to pay $20 to rip your face off in a hurry and leave patchy 7'th grade mustache fuzz so you can go drink with your college bros is fine when you're young but you can't blame people who A) are at the age where doing so makes you look like an unkept, financially sloppy fool, or B) just don't want to deal with that bullshit in the first place.

It's not that shaving is fun (not for me at least), it's that paying extra money to look like shit and hurt your face makes no sense. And defending that for the sake of "not being a hipster" is just fucking retarded and says a lot more about you than anything.
 
If we stood side by side after I shaved with my Gillette razor I bought at Wal-Mart and you spent 40 minutes shaving with your straight razor, nobody would know the difference except for us. Enjoy wasting your time in the morning.
 
1) You say that as if how shaving affects our comfort level is irrelevant...wat.

2) You must have no facial hair if you're able to use a disposable razor to make your stubble completely disappear. Unless its a fresh blade, you can do as many passes as you like and it makes no difference - it just doesn't cut very close. When you grow up you'll see what I mean.
 
You clearly know nothing or have ever used a strait edge razor go pay the 10$ at a barber shop then wait a day, after that feel free to judge.
 
Not gonna lie those things look pretty legit, but i just use a regular gillette for my neck, then just switch to my electric razor for my face. The electric razor gives a good shave in a timely fashion imo, I highly recommend them.
