If you could only ski one mountain the rest of your life...

Gonna have to say Mt. Hood, it has:

Timberline for the late season park, as well as Palmer/Mile + the Glade into Govy.

Ski Bowl for the rope tow and steep night laps.

Meadows for everything in-between.

Big Sky. Greatest variety of terrain with the shortest liftlines and fastest lifts, long park with well built jumps. Stubai or Saas Fee would probably be sicker but I've only seen videos.

This + pre-instagram levels of traffic (social media and its consequences have been a disaster for highway 26)

Mammoth, hands down. The biggest downside to mammoth is the remote town IMO. Put mammoth 30 mins from a metropolitan area and its heaven.

I'm kind of the opposite, I'd hate to be skiing near a metropolitan area, the crowds would be too much. I'm really just about the skiing, don't care about the amenities that much but this might change when I get older. And I realize you aren't saying you like crowds, but I'm willing to drive several more hours in exchange for less of them, especially if I'm on vacation.

Look, this is a fantasy and in my world I own mammoth and only let my homies go.

Killington is my personal bias answer as the season is long as fuck, dope parks & vibes, good terrain for the east, but suffers heavily from ice… otherwise I’m going with mammoth as they have dope terrain & parks and have extremely long seasons and seem to have a decent community. Maybe arapahoe basin.

Gut answer is A Basin but the big downfall is Colorado and the Denver/i70 ski bro thing that I don’t really care for. Honestly I’m pretty content with Bogus right now. It’s affordable, has tons of terrain and spreads out crowds, when the snow is good it’s got some pretty great terrain, and the vibes generally check out and has a homely feel.

Holiday Valley. Place is wild.

I’d like to say I’m already doing it at Jay Peak but I need night skiing in my life. I was graciously invited to a local’s only type of ropetow last year in Stratford one night and let me tell you, I could live with that type of shit.

Its huge, it has a very large variety of terrain, its snows a shit ton and the season is always long. The top to bottom gondi laps are so god damn fun.

There are a few areas I've never gotten to shred there that I want to go to so bad, in the past I've always been filming so I never got to explore as much. A powder day looks so god damn fun.

Bolton’s great, but has gotten more crowded the past couple years. And it’s a bit of a drive for me

I made this choice for myself and bought a house in Laax. This is where I will ski for the rest of my life.

It has great tree skiing, high alpine, and even a glacier. The area is crazy stretched out. Runs are super long with huge vertical drops. There are plenty of back-country options. It stays good in summer with world-class mountain biking, plenty of lakes to swim in, great food, etc.

I have skied in France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Colorado, Utah, California, Washington, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, Alberta, New Zealand, Argentina, Japan, etc. There are great places everywhere, each in their own way. For me, very few places have come close to the breadth of Laax.

If I had to pick a place in North America I'd probably choose Kicking Horse or Revelstoke. Mammoth is pretty sick too, as well as Alta.

I'd probably keep it to Taos, I liked it enough to buy a house here and I do 90% of my skiing here now anyways. If money were no object, a slopeside mansion at Revy with frequent private heli- and cat- skiing trips would be real hard to beat...

If I were still out east, Sugarbush easily, maybe not the best at anything but just super well-rounded between NE style natural trails off castlerock, a great park, plenty of secret woods runs, decent snow, long season, etc

Have you skied Lech in Austria? If so, how does Laax compare in terms of terrain and snow quality?

Aspen, their gondolas have the best wifi and the surrounding towns are so quaint

Aside from the joke here, Aspen would be a great area to ski at forever, especially if you got ajax, highlands and snowmass.

+1 for Taos, absolutely love the mountain and the town. I would move in a heartbeat if I could. The mountain had a great mix of everything I want from trees to steeps

Ski bowl has such fun terrain. I miss skiing it so much

yeah, but why??!?!

the athmosphere, two old chairs that lead you up to some of the best slopes and inbounds areas ever. then they have snobben which is filled with side hits and jumps.

I don't get A Basin. I live in summit county and don't get it. I mean it's alright but they get the least snow around, it's windy af, the vert is short, their parks are lol and the access is meh... I do enjoy the rockpile and pond skim days and have fun any time I'm on skis I just think it's a far cry from a top destination. Leave it to the i70 crowd! Bogus is probably better on many fronts.

I like the Mammoth answer.

But Jackson Hole is my truth.

from the vids i've seen it looks pretty damn kewl. steep techy trees and chutes for when the snow's good. but i've never been so i can't say.

Powder days at mammoth during the week are incredible. On weekends though, prepare for 90+ minute lines for canyon and broadway express as they fail to get the top half of the mountain open

My favorite time to ski mammoth is mid-late April. A good warm sunny day at mammoth is better than a powder day at most resorts

Best terrain in the wasatch. Nearly the best snow. Nearly the best lift access. Great late season. If only parking was easier it would be pretty much perfect

Snowbird for sure

I’m kinda meh about A Basin after last season. I feel like it is way more overhyped than it should be and it’s trying to be something it’s not. I think A Basin’s charm is in punching above its weight but it’s becoming known as this destination now that it’s not. The parking lots are so small for how parked out it gets. Loveland’s parking is like 5x the size and Keystone’s even more. Plus the way it’s set up - it creates so many traffic chokepoints both on the run and at the lift lines.

They need to take a page out of Loveland’s book and DROP food and alcohol prices. $18 for some truffle tots is criminal lol

I think Loveland currently embodies the original A Basin ethos more than A Basin does now.

I thought red mountain was incredible, but I haven’t skied a lot of places people have mentioned

Red, Whitewater, and Fernie are all amazing. Unfortunately, Revelstoke had super bad conditions when I did a trip to interior BC.

Abay is sick but the runs are super short and that gets annoying when lift lines get long
