this shits a game changer...been feeling hella confident but also kiiinda fatigued lately and my ankle has been feeling rough from a lil cliff drop I fucked up in December, ive pretty much been at the hill either working and skiing after I clock off. or skiing on my days off for like the past 2 weeks cuz our weather has been constant bluebird and 35degrees.

I got wasted on a right elbow rail on Monday, got folded over like a sheet of paper and slid on my hip for like the last 3 feet of the rail. homies were flabergasted that I was okay after I concluded I still had all my ribs and didn't hit my head. decided to definitely take a couple days to rest up tho cuz my right arm and hips were bruised af and I got a good burn from the rail on my side and collectively my entire body felt like shit a few moments after the slam and said fuck it and went home

into the moral of the story. even in 2 days off my ankle feels better, my hip is still bruised and tight but i've been stretching twice a day to combat that. mentally I feel less fatigued cuz I haven't had to work either so like I'm boutta make the comeback of the century after another couple days of chillin

in conclusion, take care of urself both mentally and physically, check in with ur homies, and remember that skiing is a marathon not a sprint

Yea rest days are good, both for your body and preventing burnout. My unironic long term goal is to work 3 days a week so I can ski the other 4, I skied every day one winter and decided it wasn't for me, the stupidest little nagging stuff never really healed

my local is closed monday and tuesdays, so you can bet your ass i come back itchin to demolish my body every wednesday.

Can relate.

I think the butter zone for me in high school when I could ski whenever I wanted was Wednesday thru Sunday. so 5 a week. 2 days off definitely was an ample break. 3 days off felt like too much but I definitely had a fresh mind going into Thursday or Friday when I’m itchin to ski again.

Though I bet if I lived closer to a fire park and the weather was better my ass would be out there every day and maybe take a day or 2 off every couple weeks. Woodward park city is going to be unhealthy for me when I move out to utah lol.

TLDR breaks for mental resets keep the passion going in skiing for me too :)

I've just accepted the fact that I'm not going to ski till mid march when I thought I'd be skiing like 2 weeks ago, I'm just going to keep my granite and spirit days on my indy pass for spring break and let my collarbone fully heal. Also I'm finally going to have my shins and knees at full health which is nice.

But usually when I take a break my toes and shins feel a lot better

However though I feel like this could go the other way. Yeah I’m young and don’t really experience fatigue but when there’s stretches where I go day after day after day skiing, I’ve noticed I ski better. Boots definitely don’t hurt as much and I can crank em fully at the beginning of the day, and my first lap feels like im picking up where I left off the day before.

Yeah I tore my acl years ago in football, and it still gives me issues.

I was gettin 2-3 days a week since December but start of February I haven’t been and the knee feels a lot better already. I think the body needs a mid season week or two off.

yes, I know this is good advice..but l just can't seem to not get up, eat breakfast, get dressed and go skiing. I'm sure i'm using the same arguments in my head a meth addict makes. "I'll just not do meth today and tomorrow and then i'lll smoke up". Really harder than you think when you're addicted like i def am. I know it's better for my body, but we're literally having the best season ever so I"ve only take one day off.

I've skied all but 3 days since Jan 1st and I'm finally taking a break till Friday. I already feel better

Whole mountain is on wind hold today. Forced to take a day off. thank you wind.

Wish I had the problem of being able to ski that much. I work at my local and usually work from opening till closing so I can only ski on days off

I definitely should but, I’ll hate myself for it come summer when I crave skiing like my stepdad craving pbrs and Marlboro golds. Would rather ski now, and rest then

While on the topic of health, being hydrated is also crucial.

And not only while skiing, chugging water the morning and night before really makes a difference for me.

I wanna find a way to actually drink water while I ski without having to wear a camelback or backpack with bottle.

I’ve done hip packs and Fanny packs but none of them can fit like a Nalgene bottle or anything and not be clunky.

maybe like those flaccid bladder bottles might work?

Bring a backpack throw it in the woods

Yes 100%. Platypus .5L is perfect. 16 oz so a water bottle worth and you just need a little every now in then. Even the bigger one fits but it’s a bit bulky.

Before I got a real job I started skiing 7 days a week and goddamn everything started to hurt. I got a lot better and then my knees started to hurt so much that I couldn't ski fast or hit park features. Skiing every day is something you can definitely do but you gotta work up to it.

just kidding taking a life long ski break they are closing the ski hill, only mtb now

100% true.. i find myself in that sutuation every season, if the weather is just fine my brain is like.. go up the mountain, go up the mountain no matter what! but in reality i need them breaks.. im gettin "older" (29) and im just not able to press on every day.. especially because of my knees. i try to get 2 hotlap days and then 2 days of during the season.. and it helps me so much in my 2 downdays my brain and body is like recalibrating.. then i know on my 2 days on the mountain exactly what i want to learn and have the energy for it.

rest helps..

Love & Peace

stay healthy

Burning out is real and it sucks.

I just took a week off. I was in FL visiting with family and I didn't exercise much other than a couple walks here and there. I really appreciated not being cold - 80s and sunny every day.
