Idea inspired by the new NS hompage

Alright so now that I have figured out I can save my prefrences for the NS homepage, I must say I am really stoked about the new layout.

If this is possible though, I think it would be super radical to change forums to something similar. I mean keep everything the way it is, but give a page that shows all the forums I want to check on my own single page. Kind of like mythreads but include ones I haven't posted in.

For example If I want to visit ski gabber, gear talk, a regional forum and a cult, just let me click those and then show all the threads from all of them. I think it would help out the regional forums and cults because people wouldn't forget to check them when they go on ski gabber.

not sure if this would be super difficult?

hmm, I do like that idea, as long as it wasn't the default view/forums stayed exactly the same.

A my threads overhaul, where I could have a "monitoring" section. Save threads and forums I want to view (like cults and regionals that I can't easily flip to), and threads I want to bookmark without posting in

It'd also be nice to have some small way of showing the positive or negative votes a thread has while you're looking at the list of threads in whatever forum..just so you know it's bad ahead of time ;)

Make the Home page a place where you can do this (follow threads) AND follow certain content providers/users. Then the content from content providers/users would be sorted with the most recent at the top and the least recent at the bottom.

So say I choose to follow a certain BST thread, Traveling Circus, and Kangbang. I would see Kangbang's public photos and video as he posts them, TC's latest episode, and the latest posts in that BST thread. All in order of most recent first.

Kind of like...Twitter.

well I mean the reason the new page is so awesome is because it shows me everything that I want to see. Like before I never really saw the good pictures, and it wasn't because I disliked looking at pictures but because I just have mad ADD and would get in the habbit of checking the news and then clicking over to the forums. But I want to see pictures, and now the site remembers that for me so I don't have to remember. Which is fucking brilliant.

I was just thinking that you could somehow do this for the forums because I want to see my regional forums and I want to see some of the cults, but just like it was with the pictures section I totally forget about them and never really check them out even though I would like to.

What has been suggested a ton around here is the ability to have a 'subscription' view added to the site. So you can favorite producers, journalists, threads... whatever.

That is pretty in line with what you're saying right? So you could click on a regional forum and it would slam all new stuff to your personalized page yes?

Not a bad idea at all. Clarify if I'm picking up what you're putting down and we'll look into it.

This would be hella sick. Right now it's actually really difficult to pull together all of the information that I want to see related to skiing--be it videos, photos or discussion on NS or anything elsewhere. Too many clicks, My Threads isn't very useful, I still have to search for what I want, Facebook isn't any easier, etc.

Add a subscription view (i.e. add the ability to "Follow" things) and suddenly you have a centralized hub for skiing on the internet, even more so than before.

It could almost be built into the Homepage now that it's changed. Default to the "Hot" or "Trending" view, like it is now, but give a "Subscriptions" option in the black navigation bar below the user information (where it says "Show Me/Sort") to show this information. So it would really just be a different sorting mechanism.

Ahh yes I'm dumb. I guess my post would have applied last week. Anyway I still like SupFresh's point about the rating being visible pre click

Or the option to have a hierarchal organization of the forums?

I'd like it, but it would HAVE to be an option and NOT default. Forums should be set to show by last post (then like the homepage have the option to view/save the layout by rating)

If its an optional thing then I don't even see a drawback. I would probably keep the bump to top system for myself because it would probably give more variety, but would like to see ratings just as extra thread info
