Hey I'm trying to move to New Zealand to have a full year of winter. I am wondering if anyone has any information for me on apartments, work, visas or best mountain. Im wondering if any resort has employee housing or if any big hotels have employee housing. If you have any info please post it... Thanks

come to wanaka... snowpark, cardies and treble cone are all there...

no you wont find employee housing, but you will have more fun in a flat with a group of other people doing the same thing.... if you apply at a ski field i think they sort out a visa...... pay will get you enuf to pay rent/food/skiing for the season, but dont expect to come home rolling in cash

work in a store or bar or as an instructor... if your big you can be a bouncer, they get the most i hear...it depends what you want to do, applications are open for jobs on the hills, have a look at whats available at places like snowpark or tc or cardies

yes

Southern Hemisphere is the opposite to Northern Hemisphere

i.e In Aus/NZ right now it is summer

Dude that's sick. I was thinking about after finishing High School I could go teach on the West Coast during the winter and in the off season I could go to New Zealand. I checked Chili and it said you needed to know Spanish pretty fluently so that's a little sketchy. Im currently a Sophmore in High School and I tried to get a job as an instructor, but I wasn't old enough and I ended up fracturing my tibula and fibula. I'll eventually goto college, but that's my future plans. Comments Welcome.

Its pretty common thing for people to do if they love snow

I've got plenty of mates that do back to back seasons Aus/NS and then US/Canada

One dude I know is only 22 and hasn't seen summer for 4.5 years

Yeah that would be a sick career to persue. I'll be a legit instructor next year and probably teach if I were to go from Aus/NZ to the US. What do your friends do to be able to move around that much to different mountains?

Instruct or work retail

Once you have initial experience then it's easy to get work at other resorts

They will all likely be taking applications quite soon as well, so if you are set on doing it this year then you should get onto it..

pm toominator, he may be able to help you as I'm pretty sure he's from the South Island of NZ

I wish I could go to NZ and instruct, but im only 16 and I gotta finish school, but after High School I'll definitely consider that. It's good to know that I can get a job In ZN and go from US to Aus/NZ. Thanks for your help.

Yeah applications are either already open or opening in the next week or so. All the info you need about how to apply for jobs on the ski fields are on the respective websites.

The major south island ski areas are:

Queenstown: Coronet Peak and Remarkables

Wanaka: Snowpark, Cardrona and Treble Cone

Christchurch: Mount Hutt

so yeah, if you're planning on getting down here for the winter you'll have to get cracking yo! Check trademe.co.nz for the flatmates wanted section. For flatting in queenstown check out http://www.scene.co.nz go to classifieds then flatmates wanted.

another thing, the recession is hitting pretty hard right now, so don't expect that you'll be able to walk into town and get a random job washing dishes or something. Everyones watching their spending so staff intakes might be lower this year. If you're coming over without a job lined up make sure you've got a decent cash reserve to fall back on
