I need help!

K, so I'm working on a paper about "others" and society. Others being outcasts, criminals, or someone who doesn't fit in with society. I need a modern day example of something dealing with outcasts has united society. For example, after 9/11 the country was united against terrorists. I don't wanna use that because my professor used that example. Thanks!

illegal immigrants man. perfect example.

its a racist agenda for a bunch of reasons. illegals commit less crimes than citizens of the U.S. statistically. they don't take jobs that anyone in this country would want. there have been studies that have shown that their removal would be disastrous for the economy.

personally I love all the mexican immigrants in my area, they always hold the door for me at 7-11, they have never said one rude thing to me, the mercado in my area has the best/cheapest tacos I have ever had. I do some volunteer work for a christmas charity that gives low-income families gifts for their children, and hispanics are always the most grateful. white/black people are so rude and ingrateful.

yes I know we should secure our borders, but there are a lot of people behind the issue that are racists.

This isn't really an example of uniting society. I'm looking for something that unites American society. Most americans look down on illegal immigrants, so if i did use immigrants, i'd take the approach that americans are united in the fight against illegal immigrants. Plus, my roommate is already using that :/

Ok, i think Virginia Tech would be a good example. But, what did we unite against after virginia tech? America unites against Gun Violence?

America hasn't really ever been united in terms of gun control... if VT is suppose to unifiy us over gun violence, why hasn't any of the other school shootings succeeded in this?

So maybe its better to more broadly argue that VT unified us against violence in schools and avoid speaking specifically about gun violence?

I was just saying it's kinda a fake unification-- we have school shootings all the time, and then we forget about them when it's no longer pop news.

this isn't really helping--- but i will be trying to think of stuff

maybe like Katrina -- unified response that our government needs to get it's shit together and provide relief for our fellow country men.
