I need help on icon making

I'm making an icon out of a picture i have,the dimensions are 50x50 pixels, but i can't get the size under 8k, does anyone know how?

The only tent i'm pitchin tonite is... well you get where i'm goin.... OH! (Quagmire)

Frontflips are lame

use photoshop, or GIMP (www.wingimp.com) and you can pick the target size of file

well i dont have photoshop, i have gimp...and when you save as JPEG it lets you pick how big you want the file to be

use paint, and shrink the shit outta it

i hate posers. thanx to harvey and all who contribute to the site for makin it so kick ass. the world is my very own pot party.
 
what i did is take an icon off of this site and save it to your photo editing program. erase the icon picture so you have a little blank white square. as long as there isnt too many colors used then it should almost always work cuz the target size of the file will be under 8k, and i thought it was 2k for icons? did harvey change it to 8k?
