So last night i go to the hill and do my normal park stuff.. i was really jacked cause it was my first day back from a concussion... im taking it easy so i go to the little park plan my run, back to 5 to a massive spread eagle. Now ive been out for two weeks (cause the concussion) so ive never hit these jumps before but on my first hit i throw the back flip spot my landing. Unfortunatly my landing happened to be like 6 inches away from my face. i ended up getting a second concussion and my doctor sayed i cant ski in my discipline for the rest of the year. Now my dads an avid tele skier, he's got some old gear, i happen to be wearing a pair of his old boots that fit me quite nicely.. the doctor said i could come back to the hill but no more park.. i live in wisconsin and i need a new challenge and with park outta the question im thinking tele skiing looks really good so i was hoping you guys could give me some advice on tele skiing.

aaand spark notes: how to tele?

though that was horribly written, i'm interested in getting some tips (and eventually getting a set-up) too. i tele'd for the first time the other day and it was fun!

Fun as hell to pick up, but then again I had my dad teach me, and he's been doing it for 15+ years...

i just had two concussions and may not even get to ski i am looking to something new i can ease myself into without great chance of injury and i just want some more tips... ive tryed doing it one my own and i must say i suck major ass

just go, you'll get the hang of it after a couple runs. Its so much fun. And when you get to ski powder, it gets even better. Best and first advice I was given is dissociate upper body from legs, and you are good to go.

just practice simple turns on an easy run for the first day. focus on driving the inside edge of your downhill foot into the snow to get that carve, you can get a little more consistent edging doing that. or atleast that has always helped me.

good luck its a lot of fun

so here was a thread from a couple of weeks back:

(yeah, my embedding ability is broken right now)

I was also teaching my friend's girlfriend how to tele on Monday so here are some tips that worked while teaching her:

1. Do a run doing alpine turns just to get used to the equipment.

2. Before skiing, do some in-place lunges just to get the feel of where your weight should be. You should be very neutral. Weight centered over both feet equally.

3. Timing of the turn is not to critical, you'll figure it out. For me, I switch stance just at the apex of the turn.

4. Remember to keep even pressure on the balls of both your feet. If it feels like the inside ski is "squirlly," remember to press hard down into your feet, like you're squishing bugs beneath your toes.

5. It's stupid in the long run, but helpful to start. If you keep your hands up (racer style) in the beginning it will help you keep your balance. You'll get your own style as soon as you don't feel like you're off balance.

Hope some of that helps.

I'm happy to answer any other questions.
