I need car help +karma

get a wrangler - you will always be able to get to the mountain. you can take the top off in the summer. not the worst gas mileage on the plantet.

02 a4 avant right around 11k with approx 80k which is sick buuuuuuuut

if you want reliability, go with a golf or honda or something thats fairly reliable and has lower miles.

toyota tacoma is sick too and those things are fuckin bullet proof, it all depends on what your lookin for man. any preferences?

oh sorry for not clarifying- i want a car, a fast car. i'd prefer a stock turbo, such as a gti (but thats out of the picture cause my friend just got one). i want a tuner car.

dude get an a4 or a6 bro so good for the snow and transporting lots of drugs and shit cause they low key or u can just get a subaru.

mitsubishi eclipse is a decent tuner and i know you can get some pretty good used ones for under 11k, if you look around.

might i suggest you open your view alittle bit. considering your old enough to drive a car, that means in about 2 years youll be in college, probably not where your buddy with the GTI is. If you really want a GTI, get one. it seems to fit your mold pretty well and honestly, even a different color or year will be a big enough change to not feel like its "copying" someone else.

if this is still not an option, i would honestly suggest trying to find a subaru. I know there is overwhelming positive reinforcement about subarus, and thats for a reason. They are absolutely fast, you can tune them, they look nice and theyre great for off road, ice, snow, etc.

furthermore, if a golf doesnt interest you, i know that VW makes a Jetta model thats stock turbo with a Ko3-20. my buddy got one for roughly your price and has put alot of work into it. It runs in the 12s now which is extremely respectable for a VW jetta. It also looks pretty cool.

DO NOT get a civic or most any honda for that matter. I think theyre way overplayed and if you want a fast car, get another one to build up from.

smart car, you will be one of the first depending on where you live.

You probably can't tune that though.

holy shit NS!

my first car was a 92 ford taurus my rents bought for 800$

my "ferrari" (my current car) is a 2000 Malibu, that I payed CASH for. decked out with a THULE roof rack and a couple of attachments.

wow, NS.

Subaru or VW ftw.

Understand this tho, if you buy a VW it will be a love hate relationship. I own a GTI now and have owned two other jettas. I love VW's and will prolly never buy a different type of car. mine is on 150'000 miles right now and the biggest thing i had to replace was a starter. the hate side comes to the maintanance, the parts are more expensive for a VW and chances are if you or your mecanich(sp) will have to wait a day or two for parts to come in. and the placement of parts baffles me sometimes. for example my starter is bolted into the tranny(normal) with two bolts and then through the forward motor mount. so to pull it out i had to support the whole engine (not normal).

Anyways like i said its a love hate relationship. buy either subaru or VW and if you get a VW make sure you get at least a 1.8t, i suggest a VR6 tho. hope this helped.

well i'm going to hop off the "NS on Subaru's dick" bandwagon and say smart thinking on going with something that has a stock turbo. You should look into an SRT-4. A lot of them are coming down in price and they are super responsive to Mods. Exhaust, wastegate, and dragslicks will get you into the 12's. notice the slicks though, which brings me to the con. FWD = Wrong Wheel Drive. and it gets anoying. my srt i put on a $150 wastegate to up my boost to 17 psi, and it spins right through second. which is sweet at first but then you start to realize that at a 40 roll after putting $150 into the car it just starts spinning. (anything over that however, thing hauuuullls. i got a BFMIC its 24x12x3.5 and at high speeds it just cools so much nicer) oh another PRO is that you can get over 300 HP on the stock turbo

okay so theres that option, the other thing you can do with 11,000 is buy a civic or something. but again, wrong wheel drive. or a used WRX but watch at that low of a price it will probably have the shit kicked out of it. you could look at a Cobalt SS the supercharged ones are probably pretty cheap by now...but the con with them is they are all pretty much the same. everyone goes stage 2 smaller pulley exhaust and intake. then after that is pretty much a full overhaul from what my friend has told me (he has one). um but yeah another good spot to look is if you can get into the DSM guys. they really know thier shit so if you end up going down that road you will probably be okay.

OR, if you have a pretty good paying job and think you can afford it, i would buy a beater civic and then save up and wait until this spring and buy up a mazda 3 or the lancer ralliart or the Cobalt SS or you could be like me and bust out the hyundai genesis coupe (RWD FTW). all of which are about double what you have to spend if not more but its all up to you really...

oh i forgot to ask, is this your first turbo car? or first car in general for that matter? because you might want to look into getting something a little milder depending on your experiance.

You could probably snag a wrx wagon or sedan with about 80k miles for 11,000. AWD, amazing for snow, turbo to rally, and shit its a Subaru, shits so reliable and will last forever.

- don't say "fast" you're not going to get a real fast car with 11K unless you buy something cheap and put a toonnnn of work into it. Anyways, some ideas.

VW GTI or Jetta - don't not get one just because your friend has one. i have it, it's a nice car. 1.8T is easy to mod, a chip will give it 205 HP right away, a stage 2 chip with intake and full turboback exhaust, you're looking at 230 HP. VR6, quicker than the 1.8T, sounds waayyyy better than a 1.8T, but can't be modded much without putting a lot of money into it. Seriously look at these cars though

Toyota Celica GTS - My buddies got one, definitely in your price range. It's not turbo, but it has lift, kind of like a VTEC in the higher RPMs. It's a fun little car.

Chevy Cobalt SS (/SC) - I'm not sure if the prices are down enough on them. But these are excellent cars. I was allowed to test drove a SC overnight, so I drove the pants of that thing. The drivetrain is amazing, it feels way faster than it is, clutch is smooth, supercharger doesn't let out. If you have the money, seriously check this out. If you don't have enough, maybe test drive an SS NA. It's still a 4 litre, but it's quick. I know a kid who just has an intake, exhaust, and a modest nitrous kit, he's pretty quick.

Mazda 3 2.3 litre - Not too shabby. It's won a ton of awards. I'm not sure you can mod it much... but mazda's have super light clutches

Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart - Not Oz Rally, Ralliart. Faster engine, Evo style suspention and transmission. kinda hard to find, but at least it's rare

Ford Focus SVT - Looks nice, 6 spd :), has lift, rare. Fun fun car.

Honda Accord V6 - not my favorite, but it's an idea

Honda Civic Si (2002 and 03)

Acura RSX type-s - good luck finding one in your price range though.

Dodge SRT4 - quickest thing quarter mile in this list. It's a neon with a stupid fast engine. Not my style, but it's quick.

Ford Mustang V6 - RWD, sure a ton of people have one, but it's not that bad. girls like them too, so bonus points there.

There's some ideas. My top 3 on the list would be 1) Cobalt SS/SC 2) VW GTI 3) Focus SVT

Good luck. any questions just act.

Dude, DON"T get a WRX, yeah it's a sick car but you will fucking eat yourself alive with having to buy premium gas all the time, my advice is to find a good impreza wagon or a good outback, much cheaper than a wrx and you don't have to buy premium gas, instead buy some sick studded snow tires and you will be set.

A fast car you say? Stay away from ricers. Try and find a late 60s, early 70s muscle car. You can find one for about the price you are looking for. Fast car with balls to the wall power, a back bench seat for shagging, and your car will never depreciate.

Dude get an old quantum syncro by volkswagen. Sick car depending on what you get and 4 wheel drive. Restore and is a perfect car. You might also be able to find a 2000 s4 for under 11k and those are dope cars aswell

dude i have a 2000 impeza rally sport that has 140 k and still handles like a champ, works great, and is fast as shit. it cost 5 grand when i bought it last year, you can tune the shit out of those cars and they're really fast, fun, and practicle.

subaru is the way to go

Wow you're 17 and you already have 11k to put on a car! Fuck....

And you want something fast... You'll kill yourself and it,s not a joke.

Start with a decent first car (civics, cavalier, golfs, etc...) and gain some experience. My first car was a 98 LX Civic my parents gave me with 350k km on it (dont know how much miles) then i sold it for a 98 DX Civic HB, I swapped the engine on it to put a ZC, busted the engine because I was beating it (which gave me driving experience) sold it and bought a EK9 (JDM Type-R Civic). I went from a slow car to a relatively fast one, but progressivly. You don't want to start with a RWD bomb, you'll crash it. Begin with something smaller, you'll have cash left to pay gas, have fun with it, beat it, and then, when you'll be a decent ''driver'', you will be able to upgrade to something more powerful.

Seriously, go with a 4k-6k $ car, you'll necessarely have to put cash for repairs and gas, and if you total it, it won't break your heart as much as if it was a much more expensive car.

Oh and BTW, even if you want to go fast, speed limit is 60 ;)

There's too many threads of people askin for advice on what kind of car they can get with a budget that clearly allows them to pretty much choose what they want.

Depends where you are, but I had to pay $15000 for my 02 WRX sedan. Not quite stock when I bought it, but it had 80k miles on it. 11 grand for a nice WRX is really pushing it.

dude you should get a used Acura.. there a qualtity car and there fast and good for racing if thats what your into. if you dont like acura then the VW golf if really good too. i would take an acura tho..

I got a 98 buick as my first car and it had 150K when i got it and it lasted 4 years for me and now my younger sister is driving it and it still runs good... and i bought it for 1600

Premium gas is cost effective yo. Atleast in Foresters it is. Especially if you drive conservatively. And that said if you are putting 11,000 into a car the difference in fuel price is going to be negligible. But really $11k at 17? That's not ridiculous at all.. Making $20k in a summer isn't hard.

and to original poster.. I'd definitely say get a WRX or a4,6. I have friends with both and they both kick ass. Mods are a lot easier on a WRX just because of part accessibility but my friend just waits on shipping for his Audi.. When the trubos start pushing on either.. mmmm sex.

haha, i was looking at my bank statement last night and realized that i spent at least 4k on food alone this summer.

Right. I mean all you have to do is find a job that pays $41.66/hr, and work 40 hours a week, for 3 months straight.

Oh wait...that would only be 20,000 BEFORE taxes so, I guess you'd just need to find a job that pays 52.00/hr

go fishing. seriously half my friends make 20k. The captains can make anywhere from 80k to 800k in a summer.

This works too. At the rate oc is goin up here you could sell a hundo pack every two weeks. :P

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

YA RIGHT

My friends are deckhands. Deckhands make 10%. Captains (people who own the boat, license) make anywhere from 80k to 800k. Obviously on an $800k boat there is goign to be more than one deckhand so each will not make 10%..

premium gas is like 5 dollars more a gallon, at the most. Most newer cars, like 00 and older, you're suppose to use plus and i DO because its better for your engine and costs 1-2 dollars more than regular.

Plus gas is just a mixture of Premium and and regular and often times they throw in bs ethanol which a lot of cars CAN NOT tolerate (and imo should never be used). This mixture is most often solely up to the pump truck driver and is never accurate. If you want to get your money's worth get premium. Preferably 92+.

ive always biased towards subarus but i dont see how you could beat one.
the AWD is better than any american made awd.
my motor lasted to 155k, and i beat on it.
wagons have tons of room.
reliable, fun, safe, and if you put a catback on it the boxer rumble will make you get an erection everytime you start it.
and your parents wont bitch about it, my parents didnt want me getting a boosted car but after driving it they actually liked it,and turned my mom from a crazy mini lover, to some one who wants a subie.dont get any thing american for the love of god. every experience my friends and family that have had one have only had troubles, and rust mad fast.

american cars are nothing compared to japanes cars

hondas and toyotas are like tanks, you can beat the shit out of them and the engine will last a long time

these cars are the best bet for a first car, especially older models which have a lot more potential than american cars
