I need a truck

hey,

i plan on getting a pickup truck as soon as i can. for now i can drive my dads Ranger, which is a tight truck and i like it a lot but, it has 200,000 miles and no air conditioning anymore. does anyone have any reccomendations on what i should get? i plan on putting about a 4-5" raise and big tires on it. what would look good with the raise and tires, but still be a good, reliable truck. my budget is about 6 grand. ive been lookign at chevy 1500's and ford f150's and Rangers. feel free to throw down some input.

you really need a fullsize truck? why not something like a frontier or tacoma?

Well a f150 or 1500 are gonna cost more than 5000 unless you are looking at early 90's models. you may be able to find a newer ranger but it will likely be a 4X2 abd have high high miles. Plus a fullsize lift kit is around 1000 plus about 1200 for new tires/rims. Then if you wanna do it right youll need gears too. Plus with all the added weigt and the bigger tires dont expect to get more than maybe 10 MPG and that will be streching it. If you want something to wheel, look into jeeps or toyotas or nissians. Very reliable, good gas mileage, decentily priced. Thats my $.02.

i know you said trucks but take a look at early model 4runners. I have an 89 4runner that is a convertible , 1990-95 would be tight for skiing and mudding as well. I have a picture of my truck in my profile if you want to take a look.

ok say you get a 1993 f150 for $4000 thats a very basic truck with ONLY 100000 miles and in GOOD condition. Factor on a 4" lift that is $900 for a fabtech lift, not the best quality but most likley just fine. Of course your gonna want to run 35s, no fuck that, just to save money your gonna get a set of 33s on some black steelies. theres another $1000. So you are up to $6000 not including a tune up, taxes and registration fees ect. Not to mention that your gonna want some nice dual exhaust, maybe more engine goodies ie cam, RR, TB. O yeah if you want to even keep your MPGs up, well up for a truck and still have some useable power you will need gears. There is another $1000. O yeah this is all without INSTALLATION. So there is another $70-$80 an hour. Lift normally take about 5-10 hrs to put on depending on the lift and the truck. Gears is about another 5 hrs of labor. So there is another $700 if you find a mechanic on the low side of wages. I would recommend that you install the lift yourself because you save mad cash for other things, plus you learn a lot about your truck. Ive found out that the more $$ you put into a vechile the more often it breaks down, especially when you wheel it. I am not trying to talk you out of getting a full size truck, im just helping you open your eyes to how much it would cost. There are better(In my opion) things you could get and lift. I have many reasons to my thinking but im not gonna go into it at this time. Wow this is long. Keep in mind that these numbers are on the low end of things. PM if you want specifics or more info, or if you wanna chew me out.

haha dude. i meant 6000 is the budget for the TRUCK not all the shit with the lift and tires. that will come later. meaning, i can spend up to 6 g's on the actual truck, and ill get the lift and shit later. see what i mean?

ehhm, sorry but they didn't make an early 90's tacoma. but yea tacoma would be tight except they're outrageously expensive to lift.

since you're an off roadin guy i would say an early 90's toyota pickup...great gas mileage and it'll kick anything's ass offroad. i have a 94 with 31x1050's and GG quick lok. it quite litterally goes ANYWHERE.

oh and did i mention they last forever? my dad's friend had an '82 pickup, original engine, with 400,000 miles on it. pretty dang good. as for mine, never had a problem with it on the road, or the trail

i'm trying to sell a 76 silverado 2500 4x4 with a 4 inch lift and 33s. it needs new tires though, and i recommend slapping some 35s on the beast. worrrd.

 
Get a jeep a 89 Cherokee between 75,000 and 100,000 miles run in the 1,700 to 1,500 bucks usd. which is good if you can get the jeep with the straight 6 in it, it will run forever and they look badass with a lift on them. stay away from anything that is not a 4.0 liter the smaller engine is a gas hog because you have to pull all that weight i believe u could get about 14 mpg with a lift and bigger tires it depends how big you would want to go with the tires.

tundras are sick, and have loads of power(0-60 in 7.2) which is faster than the hemi...but then again they cost a lot in gas. my dad has one and he almost never drives it because of the gas prices. GO TACOMA!!
