That's EXACTLY what I'm saying. Take your pick: a progressive binding concept coming to fruition or a slightly better product right now. But don't bitch about how ski bindings "should be" and then go into another thread and trash on a company for trying to make it actually HAPPEN. Support it if you care about it or don't if you don't think it's a good idea, but don't bitch about someone developing it while you whine about how it should be developed. That's retarded.
 
Actualy in a way ski boots can deal with overhang, keep in mind most heelpieces have 2 inches+of movement, meaning a stagger of 2 inches on mount holes and you could have a series of choices on where to mount with the current design bindings in a non demo mold.

Personaly i would rather drill my own skis than have mount holes already there. Bindings are cheap enough (you can get a pair of p12s in ebay for 40 bucks if you wait a week or two) where its really in my eyes more beneficial to just drill them and not worry about having to locktite your screws every 2 weeks.
 
Fair enough, you're right, you can move most heelpieces about 2-3cm or so, but then factor into the equation that the range between the smallest and largest adult boot is something like 5-10 cm, and that there may be situations that requires senior bindings on junior skis, blah blah blah on and on and on..and ya, drilling them is just way easier and simpler....

Reactors could be sick as fuck though.
 
or you can completely redesign the whole boots to binding concept. like you can make like a plate that you step into, similar to rossi snowboard step in bindings. your ski boot would attachs to the binding in the middle of your sole as appose to the heel and toe of your boot. i am sure there are a lot of negative thing about this design like snow jamming, and how the din setting would work. i think it's a good idea cause then you can allow the ski flex and have a higher center of gravity to lean into the turn. since the skis nowadays are getting bigger and bigger in the waiste, it's a possibility. just a thought.

There are definately a few binding "concepts" floating around that i have seen, line however is the only company that has had the balls to manufacature something yet though.

a friend of mine with a pair of the 130 prophets mounted a pair of snowboard bindings and used snowboard boots he said it was the worst idea he ever had they mounted fine after he drilled the holes in the bindings mounting plate but snowboard boots and bindnings are just wayyyyyyyy to soft for any sort of skiing !
 
no he actually ruined neither all he did was drill 4 new holes into the mounting plate on a pair of ride bindings to match the line inserts!

you should leave most of it blank, but maybe paint a little of it kind of like the fujas, or just put a killer sticker job on, how much did it cost to make those?
 
It would be assumed that the bindings are somewhat adjustable, and just have a standard mounting layout.

Oh, and in case you didn't know, most boots have the length of the shell's sole on the side in millimeters.

Way to bash an already proven concept.
 
If you think about it though, lets say someone is 150 pounds. Most people that weight that much have fairly similar boot sizes. So? Ski's that are built for people at 150 pounds take the average boot sizes of said people.

and werd to the guy above me. Those rossi bindings dont even work on SNOWBOARDS that well
 
angus: what the hell are you talking about? there are people that are 5'0" and 150 and people that are 6'6" and 150.

the way to do it would be to put multiple inserts in, more than would be required, and make the bindings more adjustable. basically the new pilot system, but without the plate for you techs.

lines's bindings suck, and should not be on the market. i agree that they are a good idea, and with the "in development" statement, but IN DEVELOPMENT should be just that. not being sold to the public. no other company would put those out for a few reasons: they have the the budget to properly design and test a binding without guinie-pigging the public and relying on consumer funds for R and D. Line also has SO much less to lose compared to the other companies, and much more to gain from a highly risky venture.

the skis on that site are siiiiiiiiiiiick. damni want a pair of those. they even got a pair of "spatulas" that is 145 underfoot. some sick shit up on that site.
 
if it's a concept in development why are they marketing it as a finished product? You'd think they would finish up the R&D and then sell it to the general public. Let their testers break the bindings and complain about the weight. Not someone who is spending $250.00 on a pair.
 
It costs about 250 to get all the materials for a pair of skis and about 300 to get the materials for the press. Then maybe a bit more if there are things you dont own, like a shit load of clamps, router, jigsaw etc.
 
i am not the one who built the ski but, the binding is like a snowboard with insedts in the core. it's kind of like a line binding, but its for the troubblemaker screw pattern. the excess has been trimed off but the sidewalls havent been routered. and updated picture is on the way.
 
Coming to fruition? Have you skied them? Do you know the changes they made since last year when almost half of them broke? Absolutely none! It is the same binding being sold this year! Do you know of any other mechanical device in history that had a %50 failure rate but was still marketed to the public as not just "safe" but as "safest?" I'm not "bitching" I'm shedding light on the truth as my Line rep has instructed me to do. They aren't being sold in Northern California this year because they aren't safe, end of story. Yes it was technically a good idea, but the idea was to force change by coming up with the idea and then selling it to Marker but then K2 bought Marker and didn't want anything to do with it. Nothing will come of this binding it will be a silly little footnote on Line's Big Awesome Ass in 5 years mark my word.
