Well I havn't had too much time for park this season so I just got my first tele set up. Any tips for a first timer? Will I be reduced back to a gaper or is it easy to pick up? I'm pretty stoked to try this out, thanks guys.

Haven't even gone out yet and your already jamming tele down everyones throat. Classic tele skier.....

Don't be this guy.

I was at jackson hole last year and the mat day I was there we had a sick pow day. A few friends of mine were all talking about the pow and how deep it was and how stoked we were. A tele skiier basically told us the way you ski when you tele makes powder feel deeper and more enjoyable, so yeah have fun on your pow days.

Keep an even weight distribution between both feet at all times; push hard with your inside pinky toe when in turns. Don't spread out your stance too much.

It's not that hard but it takes a bit of time to get good.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

Not hating but can someone explain why one would tele? Is it just a new and different way to get down the hill?

pretty much, I'm learning it this winter so what normally seem like small hills and boring trails become an adventure again

yeah this is why I'm doing it

you have simply freed the mind. a pow surfer is the one and only tool to free the soul. if you have edges and bindings;you have rules. no edges no binding no worries= free soul

meh, i did it for about a 100 days one season and at the end of that season no one would ski with me because the only way I could keep up was to throw alpine turns on them, so i figured what's the point? if you're bored with alpine, go for it, but for me it was just holding me back from shredding good terrain fast and aggressive.

you know what the tele skier said when he wasn't high any more? "Man, these bindings suck"

I don't know about this... I tele'd for two years and I still feel like alpine skiing on pow days is way better. Telemarking in pow means you have to worry about tip dive sometimes which can be annoying at times. Also, skiing switch in powder is an unmatched feeling and can't really be done the same on tele bindings.

Did some teleskiing last winter for some ski instructor stuff and learned how to do the switch, some tailbutters, 180's and really small 360's. Switch is pretty cool since everyone is watching and thinking how is he doing that. And tele is relatively easy to learn if u know how to alpine well. Ou nosebutters are impossible, ate shit so many times trying them..

Ya powder probably feels deeper if you're bending down into it.

Maybe not the same, but it's totally possible.

I'm pretty sure this pic is mid nosebutter.

Tele skiing gets a lot of flack for being stupid and less capable then alpine skiing. I think a lot of that rep comes from the people that are associated with it rather than what can be done on the equipment.

well what I always say is squat to ski, squat to pee, so take that you tele skiing hippy!.

but actually , I telle'd for a couple years and ended up realizing it just wasn't for me. My main advise is don't cross your tips when tele turning, or get the uphill one caught. As for gear set up, soft springs on the bindings are good for learning but once you get comfortable your going to want stiffer springs to go remotely fast or ski in the woods, the stiff springs also help negate face plants.

Also please don't be one of the hardos who brags about how sick tele skiing is, Or how deep your stance is, no one cares that you're knee touched your top sheet or that your soul is now free.

word dude, Keep on shredding, The soul freeing comment was not a jab at the thread title, It was more in jest of some of the high and mighty tele skiers that inhabit my home mountain and try to push tele skiing on everyone that they ride the chairlift with.

Yeah man I haven't done it, that's just what I've heard. I'm curious to try in a couple years tho.

never tried it in the park, but it is so fuckin fun to just shred newly groomed slopes with telemarks. you will pick it up fast. read and learn about techniques on the web. I shredded telemarks before I started with park skiing and locking my heel down. kinda miss it

Half the binding, half the brain. Your insults don't phase me.

The biggest piece of advice I got was for skiing powder is to forget about your edges. Fuck em. You're skiing almost entirely on the bases.

for sure, it made skiing on mellow groomers fun/challenging again which to me is pretty sick
