I hate to bitch, but a it's time we put an end to NS hate.

I just want to say that I am slightly irritated at newschoolers community here- I'm not blaming everyone, I'm just blaming those guilty of what I am about to describe here. Based on my experience, newschoolers is part experienced and helpful skiers who are absolutely amazing, on the other hand you have the users under 18 (myself included) that carry themselves with the thought that they are far better than anybody here. Skiing is supposed to be about creativity, expression, progression, and most importantly fun. However, ego brings all of these properties down.

Example: I put up a video of a rare trampoline trick that I believe to be a comination of a flat 3 and an underflip 5, now I have an obsession with trick definitions, I can say with confidence that I know what I'm talking about when I name a trick. Next thing I know, here comes a swarm of hate. Some ignorant member even commented "rodeo 5 queer boy" despite the fact that it is nothing like a rodeo and the use of a derogatory insult is completely unnecessary. I'm not bitching about the community reaction to this video, this is just an example.

Also, some members are just out here to criticize videos just for the hell of it. Newschoolers is supposed to be an online ski community. You wouldn't hear one skier say to another skier "that was fucking gay" when they just landed their first cork 720 but missed the grab. My point being, we need to make newschoolers an awesome place instead of a place with immature, ignorant, and arrogant people. I am just generalizing here, but I don't have a problem with 90% of the community.

The olympics are less than six months away and we need to present freeskiing to the world for what it truly is- creativity, expression, progression, and fun. Many members are already doing this and have been doing so since the founding days of the site. However, some members are not responsible enough to realize that a community is built on people rather than the individual.

Once again, I hate to be the person yelling out in the theatre, but I felt that it needed to be done. I don't care if this thread gets slammed, supported, or discussed. All I care about is that it gets seen.

-Best Regards, keep the community strong.

From OP's profile:

"I hate wiggers, those little scrubs who try to act black (listen to wu-tang, sag to the floor, use black slang, etc...) but in fact these kids are from a nice suburb and their dad makes $500,000+ a year to pay for their fucking XXL saga jacket."

OP is a straight hater and therefore a hypocrite.

i guess you got me there, but i like to speak my mind, force opinions down people's throats >:)but seriously, i was trying to speak towards people newer to the community so as that they don't get discouraged. yes, it is hypocritical for me to hate on rich kids who act ghetto but nobody is perfect.

this is going to be interesting to see where this thread goes...

I'm guessing negative reaction.

Sounds like you're a bit upset because of peoples reactions to your contributions. Haters are gonna hate, let it go.

NS is made up of a bunch of people sitting behind a computer screen. Keep that in mind. I think a lot of people hate for their own personal enjoyment, usually to get a reaction. Skiing is fun, a freedom of expression, blah blah blah as you'll witness most of the time at any mountain you go to.

I think the main problem that is missed is that Life is full of hate. You wouldn't tell your buddy to his face that his cork 7 sucked, but the guy on the chair might have nudged his buddy beside him and gone 'dude look at that fucking gaper trying to cork sev... what a joke'.

Hate has always existed, but before the internet we could all pretend it wasn't there. All of us know even when we were reading magazines or watching movies, there was people you talked shit on to your buddies.

The internet broke down that barrier, and people become confused as they state their opinions - but then people hear them. The very fact that you want to cut down on hate, yet have a hateful statement in your profile is a true testament to this fact.

Now, I'm one who does believe that it would be awesome to maybe set the slider from a 3 to a 7 in terms of the positivometer... and that can simply be accomplished through people engaging in better discussions.

I wouldn't want there to be zero hate, because at a certain point we'd just be jerking each other off and not being truthful. I think a key element of what makes the internet awesome is the honest opinions and feedback that we get on stuff. You no longer can tell yourself something was awesome, you get to know whether others thought it was or wasn't.

Balance is key. Not engaging in stupid hate (don't feed the trolls) does wonders for cutting down, but the single strongest thing you can do is just engage in quality conversation and provide great, constructive feedback when commenting.

Yeah, I'm not going to change the way I act but clearly everyone else should....

I'm not sure who you expect to sway over to your side with that argument....

Have to agree with Doug, the world is full of hate, it's how you choose to handle it that's on you. Such as hating on someone because their parents that may or may not have money... That's on you.

Also its been a good few months since most people have got a ski fix so i feel its a contributing factor to the amount of shit-talking and trolling. things should improve as people acctually get to go skiing and the season starts. All I would say for now is that newschoolers works in the wonderful way that the popular conversations float to the top of the forums and the rest fall, so if you want to see more positive quality conversation, get involved and positively contribute to more of what you want to see from NS and dont let the hate get to you/dont feed it.

I don't think the community is getting worse/more criticizing I guess everyone is getting softer. Ski culture has never been super positive but I do believe it's getting more supportive for the younger generation.

If you can't take the heat get off the grill...simple

Sometimes I get off the grill... sometimes I get butthurt

2nd paragraph maybe one of the funniest things ive read on here

Jesus Christ. I agree but stop beating the dead horse, this thread is over 10 years old.

My views on skiing and the Newschoolers community have changed from 10 years ago. Yes, I was a cringey keyboard warrior then. Now I'm just a washed up skier that doesn't care either way.

How dare you disturb my inner peace by bumping this ancient thread.

I agree with OP. Unfortunately this is not just an NS problem it is an internet problem in general. There is always gonna be some extra testosterone spamming the keyboard somewhere. I suggest you'd just block them...
