What i think is interesting, is that i have absolutly no problem with JD and never have. but he seems to think that i do because of some uncessary comments he has said to me in the past. yes i was defensive before, but it was funny. Sorry JD, I dont care. I never have, and I never will. So for my 2 cents, I dont mind JD. He brings color to NS as a lot of other people here do. But hes nothing to brag about.

J.D. does not purposely give off the 'I'm better than you attitude', but because he responds intelligently to posts, and lays down knowledge that the large majority of NS can't handle, people may feel that way about his comments. It's great to see kids like MadTrix_540 get all worked up over a person like J.D. who brings a lot of insight and information to the plate, merely due to the fact that they can't understand the vocabulary of an educated person.

And I hate that everyone always agrees with him because they think he's smarter, thats not insulting JD, its insulting everyone else. JD May is cool, although he not even been a that long. I do remember when he joined. He was quite odd, in a smart way. He was member of the month a while ago.

There is only one thing JD does that bothers me: he recycles words that seem rare to uneducated ski bums. Examples: penchant, propensity, etc. These words usually just sound akward, as though he wrote his post on MS Word and did the right-click synonym thing. But whatever.

Just because we like to ski doesn't mean we aren't educated. We need more JDs on this site. I've long given up on many political threads because the average intelligence level on this site has gone way downhill in the past year and half or so.

You know, NS is a place to relax and its a place to interact with oters. Just like in the real world, sometimes you want to talk about how you take a shit and sometimes you want to talk about the meaning of life (cliched...) or some political subject etc. The thing is, variety is not a bad thing, it can't be a bad thing, how can you be annoyed with something posted on an internet forum, some people may enjoy it, and if you choose not to, don't read it. I'm sure you can spot J.D.'s icon if you have taken the time to write this post, so why not just skip his posts?

Personally, I dont think he's smarter than me (although he may have a bigger vocabulary and be more intune with current issues and affairs, as I don't concern myself with politics) but I think that he definitly puts more time and effort into his posts, and I, for one, enjoy reading them. I love the way he puts phrases together, he makes me laugh alot and when he insulted the starter of this thread he did it in such a wonderful way. The way one puts a phrase together is nothing to hate him over.

Skisundown, I'm not trying to use an elaborate vocabulary in my posts, but when I'm typing I'm writing, and extravagance just suits my writing style. And I never use a thesaurus... what would be the point of THAT? Anyways, as long as my profs don't think my style is awkward, I'll keep writing the way I do; I don't purpose to confuse anyone in so doing, I do it for the sake of assiduity. If I tried to write poorly on NS for the sake of others, I'd probably write poorly in other arenas. So I'm not going to. Sorry. Get a dictionary or ignore me... I'm sure many elect to do the latter anyways :)

I'm taking mostly english and philosophy, I plan to major in english and go into law. I don't do as much creative writing anymore... I used to write poetry, but after a while I didn't see the point, and that's about when it starts to become really BAD poetry and you should stop. I don't really have time to write anything anyways.

I don't need a dictionary to understand words like 'assiduous.' I'm simply pointing out that I find your vocabulary to be more showy than 'elaborate,' or whatever it was you called it. As a writer myself, I, too, have gone through phases in which I have embellished my work, but I eventually discovered that obnoxious vocabulary actually detracts from readability. Sure, an 'elaborate' vocabulary will make you sound learned (pronounced learn-ed) to fourteen year old nobodies on a newschool skiing forum, but to people who will be/are attending or have attended schools like Yale, Harvard, etc, your diction will be viewed differently, perhaps even as a compensation for some intellectual inferiority complex that you may or may not have.

I wasn't implying that you needed a dictionary, skisundown. You seem like a bright guy. But nobody looks down on me for my vocabulary. It's usually far better employed than it is in posts on here; in essays, it flows naturally because I put more effort in. I'm just syaing I'm not going to consciously stop myself from writing in a similar fashion on here. I'm honestly not trying to make myself sound smart or compensate for any intellectual shortcoming I might or might not have, as you put it. I'm just writing in the style that comes naturally. It's not my best writing by any means, so sometimes it might sound like I'm an idiot who's trying too hard. However, considering the styles of a lot of other posters on here, I don't think you should be so critical of mine... and for the record, there's no need to give the pronunciation of anything in your posts. The only one who actually has to read it out loud is Atlantaski, and no extra effort need be made for his sake.
