can somebody please recommend a good virus scanner/spyware remover program!!

i have norton antivirus now, and it scans and finds viruses all good and dandy, but half of the time it cant delete them!! i used to have adaware and it did the same thing!

i already had to reinstall windows once, and i dont really feel like doing it again

it pisses me off because a lot of the time the spyware isnt even coming from porn, its from other small sites

Lavasoft's Ad-aware

Excellent program for removing spyware. Has a huge database of known spyware and wipes them clean super quick and efficeintly. Rated #1 from many sources. Highly reccomended.

Definitely one of the best spyware remover programs. Spy Sweeper is award-winning software that effectively and safely detects and removes spyware from your PC to protect you from identity theft, browser hijackers, hackers, keyloggers and Trojans. It won PC Magazine's editors' choice for best software. It also has built in shields that always keep guard over your computer and looking out for spyware. The only downside of this program is that I'm not sure if the shareware version actually removes the spyware. you could always download the serial # for it, but, it's worth supporting the company. It's worth it.

Spybot Search & Destroy

It's great. It works. It does it's job. It's free. It keeps me happy. Personally though, I've found the other 2 programs to have a better system at removing the spyware, and Spy sweeper did detect a few more trojans/spyware. But, this is definitely a top contender in functionallity and it's databse.

there is another program called hijack-this, it is very useful, it is essentially msconfig on steroids, i would recommend it for people who know what they are doing though because if you dont know what you are doing you could screw up windows

An alternative to running these programs is configuring your computer correctly, getting a good firewall, and using common sense when surfing.

Search and Destroy works fine but like sum one said above the others find more!

With norton, if you go to the virus profile on the ones you can't delete, it'll tell you how to manually delete them.
