I don't wanna be a gaper anymore.

So I consider myself a pretty good skier, the problem is I live in Georgia. I wanna buy my own gear, and embarrass myself trying to learn tricks. My question is, what's the best way to go about learning?

well, get out of georgia first.

than just ski a lot. the better you get the bigger your clothes. once you get to a happy median of skill and bagginess youre not a gaper anymore!

just ski a lot. who cares if youre still gaped out.

Trick Tip Cult. It's pretty dead, but there are LOTS of threads that will be of help. Get out of Georgia, buy some gear (used, if need be) and ski. A lot. Try to find some people who are better than you, and ski with them. Eventually, you'll hit their level if they've plateaued a bit, and then it'll be a competition to 1up each other every day. And that's how you progress.

Watch videos, try tricks in said videos, watch better videos, repeat.
Just click through the first few pages on NS though, I've made a ton of posts over the past little while about this stuff.

Well first your should buy this jacket.

for one it is an XL and everyone knows that big clothes= not gaper. More importantly though it is a magical suit and will make your ski better. I am not sure why probably some of my amazing skills rubbed off onto it but thats just a theory.
If you buy it now I will ship it with a chairlift stained golden Tall-T to further give you that true non gaper Image. I think the T is magical too.

just remember have fun with your skiing, dont be a trendwhore and anyone who judges by your skill levels probably a douche

move somewhere where it snows and get good fast, like john lippiat... or just got to camp and get noticed like peter olenick

Sorry to kill your business attempt, but don't buy this until you feel quite talented in the park. A lot of skiers will hate you for having the sickest gear, but not being good. Especially when it comes to the G-Suit or Magic Suit.

This has been covered several times, but you're new. Anyway: goggles under helmet, baggy clothes (XL+) , tall tees (preferably layered), saga, fulltilts , JIBERISH, g suit(if you're good), center mounted park skis, short poles , afterbang , hands below waist while spinning and sliding, staggering while switch. higher post counts and NS karma

Being a good park skier is easy. Just remember what AFTERBANG stands for

You said you can ski good. So I ask you, if you go to the Rockies per se, can you ski ever marked run without flinching? If not, then I recommend focusing on that before you start trying to kill it in the park. Of course I assume you have acces to more than southeast skiing. But yeah, the confidence from killing difficult lines will make you invincible in the stunt/jumping runs.

"i don't wanna be a Gaper no more! I'm not a gaper I just suck alot"!.......to the tune of "i don't wanna be a playa no more"

it depends on on what your definition of afterbang isif you think it means puffing your chest out and "bonering" when landing, then noI just relax when i land

I'm originally from GA too, high five. This is what I did, after hs I went to school where I could ski a lot and once I graduated I got a job at a resort out west. I,ve had 6 consecutive seasons with 70+ days under my belt and boom, no more gape-ness. It won't be easy till you can get out of ga, but drive up to nc and shred app as many times as you can all winter, it's legit. Good luck
