My school's wifi network prevents the use of bit torrent clients and peer file sharing. Is there any way to get around this? I cant download any new music or movies and I have to wait until I go home to do so which is kind of a pain.

Thanks in advance and +k for anyone who can help.

Theres many ways.

One is to use a VPN, which costs a little bit, but it is the best way.

Another way is to use TOR to access the actual websites, and to use Anomos, which is like utorrent only it hides your IP, so I think it will get around your school's internet blocker.

for anything which is blocked on the web (i.e.: adult sites....) spotflux is great (much better than hotspot in my opinion) until the school blocks it too when all the students are using it (happened to me, I brought it to the school, and after 8 months or so everyone was using it n it got blocked...) tor is good, just really slow cos of the encryption. Any reasons you don't want/can't stream? I very rarely torrent movies (unless i want hd).

Does your school have a DC++ Hub? instead of using outside networks, it uses only the schools network to share files. Usually itsspread by word of mouth, so find a nerd who has the URL for your specific Hub. Here at Uconn I'm downloading full HD movies in 5 minutes so it's pretty worth it to look into....

It might not be worth it, just saying. At my school they'll catch you within several hours of pirating unless you're a supernerd.

Some schools are watched more closely than others.

yeah i guess i probably should reword. The websites and clients them selves arnt blocked, its just that the monitor the use of them. Like I can still visit websites like what.cd and videoseed, but they said if they catch us downloading files from from peer file sharing websites such as these that we can be suspended or even expelled. So would TOR prevent them from seeing me download these files?

OPEN TWO TABS-

1) type in itemvn, for myspace (premeium account required)

2) second tab type in file2HD

Copy song URL from itemvn, place in File2HD, click audio . You can convert and download songs through terminal on the mac with a code or download a media converter if you are too lazy to utilize File2HD.

3)converts to 320kbps MPEG Audio FIle.

4) Done

TOR is great for browsing, but you'd have to configure your torrent client to run through TOR (or another way of spoofing MAC/IP) otherwise they can easily pinpoint who is downloading torrents. I have no idea how to do that, never looked into it. It is possible though.

VPN. I can VPN into my university's network for free, and I've actually done so to download stuff on other networks where it's blocked haha

it sounds like you can just use forced encryption on your torrent client and be fine. works at my school

Starbucks

I got caught last year, but it wasn't until I had downloaded about 50 movies. They just gave me a warning and told me I'd be banned from the wifi for a month if I was caught again.

Also, youtube to mp3 bypasses it.

They're using the program called "explorer.exe" and you can view it when you press ctrl+alt+delete and go into task manager. All you have to do is stop that program and it stops all "tracking" programs the school uses. Basically it makes your computer invisible to the network.

Actually believed this until I remembered what it was haha.

Glad to see you're not convincing people to delete system32, this is much better.

Kid works for the corporations known as college institutions. Yeah, believe him instead of an honest American (me)... You'll go far in life...

Can you explain what you mean or how this works. Why would going back into the school network that prevents the activity fix the problem? And how do you access it for free? Curious honestly.

if i'm connected to the schools VPN, will they be able to pinpoint me downloading torrents still?

set up shitty PC at parents place

install a freeware remote access software (tightvnc, there are many)

torrent shit at parents house, copy to home computer

ez-pz

my school uses CCA which i think might prevent me from using a vpn... This shits confusing. I might just go ask the computer science major across the hall to set something up for me.

damn that's what i thought. i tried using spotflux that was mentioned above. it appears to change my ip nicely but when i'm downloading torrents the protection likes switching on and off

chances are that if the network equipment is configured to block bittorrent traffic it's also going to block most VPNs and other related traffic

it's not that it's blocked, IT will just shut off your internet. i downloaded a ton of music via youtube to mp3 and they locked me out for an hour and made me read/agree to the user policy

This. I can visit and browse those websites all day if i wanted. Its just when I start downloading.

sorry for dub post too.

ahahahaha man i love working in IT....we can be such douchenozzles

THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T SEED TORRENTS!!

but seriosuly i would set up a shitty computer at the parents house, install teamviewer, and remote connect to it using you mac. or d/l shit at a friends house. not much else you can do.

i don't seed them, they blocked for 30 youtube to mp3 downloads. i'd do your little computer set up at my house, but i'm currently 1400 miles away at school

in my professional opinion, you need more database to speed up your internet fast enough to clear the step up over the firewall.

good.

yeah, the reason why colleges started to block this shit is because assholes were seeding THOUSANDS of songs/movies and the RIAA got pissed and said to colleges 'crack down on bitorrent traffic or we're going to sue you for hosting pirated content'

I had some success in the past using bitguard. Best bet is either using a VPN, or setting up a server at your parents house that you direct everything towards, and then from there to your PC at school. Its what I did for a bit. Otherwise, make friends off campus, and when you go over to play videogames, or whatever, jsut run your laptop and USE ALL THEIR BANDWIDTH!

I joined club volleyball and apparently they have a house off campus. So I think my plan is just to abuse their internet when ever im over there.
