Hi everyone, first of all im Spanish so if i make any mistake writting notice me ill thnk u that it really helps to improve :)

Btw two years ago i broke my ACL in a soccer match but i gave 0 fuck because my knee didnt hurted after two weeks, but when the doctor said that i had broke my acl my world felt down, and some questions like: Will i be able to ski again? or will this be like before? So a year ago, i had my surgery, was really good i thought that would be worse, even my rehab was good, but i got lot of insecurity and i dunno if ill be able to ski again, I would love and appreciate if there's someone that has the ACL surgery as me and has skied again and the feelings, the differences...

Thank you beforehand :)

I've never torn my ACL but im pretty sure that there are hundrends of people here in ns who have torn theirs and still skiing.

Ive torn my acl twice on my right leg and I've torn the patellar tendon on that side too, plus meniscus damage. If you want to ski again all you have to do is put in work in the gym. Humans are amazing at recovering with the right PT

damn nigga, how do you afford that?

He's Canadian and they have a health care system the USA should use as a base model.

To OP, I've had ACL surgery as well. Everyone is nervous getting back, but take it slow gettign back on skis and make sure your legs are strong from rehab. Skiing is easier on the knees than soccer anyways. Good luck!

this about sums it up

it's all in your head. just be sure you stuck to the PT schedule, and ease into it

Make sure to stretch, foam roll and go to the gym. Get a physio therapist to set you up with exercises and see where you're at. If you were feeling no pain 2 weeks after tearing the acl, you probably didnt damage the rest of the knee much, should be fine to ski just as hard as before after some rehab.

ive had 3 acl's dude.....

Dude WTF is recovery all about with that level of surgery?

Also... I can't even imagine how much that fucks with your head. I was enough of a pussy when I was trying to be an awesome skier... coming back from a bad injury must just be a total fucking mind trip.

yeah if you were fine after 2 weeks you'll probly be fine with surgery and a lot of rehab. i had a partial mcl and partial acl tear last winter and had acl reconstruction in january. the rehab is a bitch but it'll be fine if you ease your way back into stuff.

as far as major injuries fucking with your head breaking my arm was way worse then my knee(see the thread i created called i love skateboarding) that shit gave me low end ptsd. you'll be good especially because you didn't injure yourself skiing

I tore my left one skiing when I was younger. I missed the next season because I was a pansy and nervous at the time. But other than some minor discomfort when iv fallen in a weird way, it hasn't interfered with me to much at all. It did take some time before I stopped feeling like my knee was going to explode at any moment haha but that was just all in my head.

dos broken acls for this muchacho...get strong, when you think your strong, get stronger. ease in, then sack up. worst case, you get to have more anesthesia.

last year I was back on skis 8 months after my ACL surgery. I took it really slow in the park, didn't do huge tricks, etc. I really just wanted to be back on skis and have fun but this year I'm back 100%. Also, if you can afford a brace do it, that's what I did last year.

It can be. A few years ago I blew my ACL, MCL, MPF ligament, meniscus and worst of all ruptured my patellar tendon and my first day on snow after that I had visions of my knee bending the wrong way like an ostrich. The thing is, I find most people coming back from serious injuries have put in the time to get themselves in the best shape they've ever been in. So once those doubts erase after a little while, your body is ready to send it.

Yea, the level of dedication and mental fortitude it takes to get back from a serious injury or surgery pushes you to do the best you can. All the countless hours spent sitting on the couch and then doing physical therapy really make you value being on snow again. At first it's terrifying but then you realize that you put in all that work for a reason and that reason is so that you can return to the level of skiing (or any activity for that matter) that you were at and then surpass it.

Yea i had the same thing, first year back on snow felt like it was going to explode. Took a good 3 years until it felt good enough to stop worrying about it constantly while skiing, now i hardly notice it at all. But this varies from person to person, I think alot of it has to do with soft tissue damage and scar tissue. The ligament is strong after 9 months, but the injury and surgery really fuck with your muscles and the tissues in the knee capsule. Some people are ready to rip and feeling good at 9 months, others take longer.

my uncle has torn both his achilles tendons and has had surgery on both and he still skis at least 100 days a season in fact he works at a mountain.

the sad thing is he will never be able to ski like he used to or hike or rock climb or any of the stuff he used to do

did mine playing soccer. intense rehab and 5 months later skiing, not charging, but on the mountain. gl homie if you rehabbed it will be mostly mental

Blew my ACL at sunshine off a cornice. Got the surgery, did the rehab, got back in shape, surgeon gave me the thumbs up. One year later, I was skiing again...

for a month until I re-tore it at Lake Louise landing backseat. Tore the graft off.

It's been about 8 months since then and 5 since my second ACL surgery. It's much slower recovery the second time so whatever you do, be careful and avoid re-injury. Don't trust it too quickly even though you might want to. I don't know how much benefit a brace really provides, but I'll tell you this: I'm wearing one from now on (I was when I hurt it the second time but it wasn't a good brace).

Also I'm super fat now. So much couch time in the span of 2 years. Just brutal.

Shattered my knee cap just a couple of months in physical therapy and it should be fine, hell my dad hasn't had an cal for about 8 years now and is still going strong.

My friends brother tore his ACL's 6 times, 2 right and 4 left. Dude has the worst luck, never could ski or play soccer again.

so he the $100,000 man now? thats alot of knee surgery goddam

I tore my ACL 2 yrs ago skiing. If you follow everything the doctors tell you and work hard in PT you'll be back 110%. The first couple times back out on the skis just take it easy and don't try anything too crazy. Focus on getting the basics down again and work your way up.
