Hunter S. Thompson - RIP

i wonder if he did it on purpose or if he was just shooting his gun in the house again and it ricocheted off something and hit him. either way this really sucks. rip

It was intentional, I read an article a few hours ago that confirmed that he shot himself in the head. Undoubtedly he used an enormous fucking gun. And yeah, we have lost another great mind, when I heard the news last night I was actually thinking we've lost the last remaining great mind. I was up all night thinking about it, though, and right now I'm thinking that for a man like HST to shoot himself, things have got to be really fucking weird. For a journalist who lived through Vietnam, Watergate, the Kennedy assasination, said 'It never got weird enough for me' and never stopped writing, I think that this is a pretty solid sign that things are about as bad as they've been in a long time. I imagine The Good Doctor probably wrote something in the last few hours, and I can imagine what it's about. I'm just praying that it gets published (I really hope Jann Wenner rolling stone has the balls to do it) and that the suicide of someone as important as Hunter Thompson can mean something to a lot of people, because he wouldn't have done it if things hadn't gotten this weird. Bush is out of his fucking mind, and the rest of the world knows it better than half of america.

 
^You can't blame his suicide on Bush, I am sure it is not as superficial as that.

Ya i do think Bush, and how hes leading the world, had alot to do with it, did you know that Fear and Loathing, is about him? i just learned that recently

It would take a weak person to kill themselves over the presidency, and Thompson was not weak. Do not belittle the man by disrespecting him like that. I understand he was not a Bush fan, but I highly doubt that was what drove him to suicide. You need to change your member name, because you are being very disrecpectful, I doubt you have even read Thompson.

i'm not exactly saying it was bush, but more just the way things have been lately, the world's fucked up. I'm not going to try to argue about that, though. He had gotten a hip replacement recently, he broke his leg I think a few weeks ago, or maybe a month or two, had some wicked back pain, and who knows what else. You're right, he was strong as hell. So why'd he do it? I've always seen suicide as weak. So i guess none of us knowing any more than anyone else, maybe having read more than some, but regardless, I'm just gonna shut up and hope like hell that he wrote something and that we can get a chance to read it sometime soon.

 
read pretty much any of the articles on the net about his suicide, they're all about the same... they'll just give you a short biography and a few things about Juan and Hunter's wife. I think LA Times has a decent article. Aside from that, I dont know, i always have a hell of a time explaining why his writing style is so unique and engaging, if you want a mindblowing read i'd say you should go for Kingdom of Fear.

its not if you know him or not it is that to certain people he was very influental and really a great mind therefore it is a lost to humanity as a whole
