How you guys wax your skis?

I like to wax my skis by myself and want to know how you guys doing it. It's always good to have better or worse tricks. Thanks

ooh this could end in tears.

anyway - short answer:

clean bases with citrus stuff

break out wax & iron, get iron so wax melts but not smokes

drip wax onto base in a squiggle going from tip to tail

iron wax in - long strokes from tip to tail

wait 20 mins

break out plexiglass scraper & scrape all the wax off the surface of the base - long strokes from tip to tail

break out scotchbrite & wipe firmly - long strokes tip to tail until you are too tired/lazy to do it any more

feel good about yourself & have some brew/bud

well given my instructions he could still fuck up his skis pretty royally if he's retarded, my directions arent THAT detailed

using the scotchbright pad is texturing. Not as good as using a proper brush, but it does work.

Don't use chemicals to clean your bases, only before base repairs. Hot scrape them if you want them clean.

why not use citrus base cleaner?

Ive seen arguements as to the acid drying bases out? hot scraping does a good job cleaning but I still like citrus cleaner... you use less wax, use less time

one thing that is important to remember as well as was said, long strokes from tip to tail when ironing will usually ensure that one part of the ski doesnt heat up too quickly, heat = base bubbles = bad

i just wipe the bases down, heat up the iron and let the wax drip on the skis, then make sure the iron isnt too hot and then u just move the iron alog the bases of the skis until the wax is spread out over the base of the skis, i do love nice freshly waxed skis

Hot scraping means waxing thick with a warm wax then scraping it off right away. Base cleaners do harm your bases - they really dry them out. And for waxing, you can move your iron a lot slower than most people think - one pass along the ski should take about a minute. This won't damage the base if the temperature is set right and you'll get better wax penetration.
