How would you handle this situation?

About a month ago I ordered a rooftop tent for my truck and yesterday it was finally delivered to me. The day before yesterday I received a call from a woman who worked at the freight company telling me that my package looked like it had been damaged by a forklift. This woman was also nice enough to send me pictures of the damage. Initially, I told her not to deliver it but then, after emailing customer service at the tent company and being told that I would be compensated for any damage to the tent, I had it shipped to me. Upon receiving the box it was obvious that no one had taken care in packaging or handling the tent the entire way through the shipping process. When I opened the box I found several dents in the top of my brand new $3400 tent. I sent pictures of the damage to customer service and today I received an offer of $300 and some JB Weld to fix the dents (lol). Personally I feel that this isn't remotely enough money and what they really need to do is fix my damn tent. Especially since they have a warranty for their tents shown on their website.

Tell them to send you a new tent.

I would also try to get them or the shipper to pay for return shipping. You have proof that the shipper damaged it (the ladies photos), so they should pay for it, but since you opted to receive it they may say too bad.

Bad timing being summer and all, just get your money back and idk maybe either buy a different brand, take another chance buying the same one later or go to fred meyer and buy a cheap tent and sleep on the ground.

If you fix it yourself it could start leaking someday or something, definitely get your money back, that's uncalled for and unacceptable in this day and age imo.

Who shipped it? That damage is on them all the way.

I would contact the manufactuer where you bought it from and ask about an exchange. The manufactuer may help you get through the paperwork ordeal by the shipping company.

shipping companies are the biggest rip offs you can get and are professional scam artists when it comes time to compensate you for damages.

I don't think the shipping company is who I go after since I wasn't the one who paid them to ship the tent to me. The way I see it, I paid Roofnest for a product and then didn't receive what I paid for. If they want to go after the shipping company after they make things right with me then they are free to do so.

Rooftop tents are expensive. The model that I originally wanted was a go-fast camper and those retail for $4600 plus shipping. The price is justifiable to me because of the convenience and speed of set up that these clamshell models provide. I do a lot of winter camping and don't like fumbling around with tent poles when it's freezing cold outside

300$ on a 4000$ item is a complete rip off. You should hassle them for an exchange.

When you buy something at a physical store and they break it while giving it to you after paying for it, they dont simply say: ooops, Im sorry, heres the product anyway and heres 10% back for the fuck up. Good luck.

I would press the issue with them. The shipping company has insurance for that kind of stuff.

Yeah I think the move is to ask the tent company to replace it, give you a deeper discount, or agree to pay the full bill for a third party to repair it. If the functionality of the item isn't impaired, it might be hard to make them pay, but also it didn't come as advertised so you have that on your side. The tent company can then try to settle with the shipper for their expenses. As Freestyler540 already mentioned, shipping companies are notorious for mishandling and damaging items and not accepting any liability.

Bro they gotta pay for that, it's not your fault it's theirs

Update: I continued to press the issue with them and they've agreed to give me a new tent. I'm a little annoyed that I had to justify why their offer wasn't okay but whatever. I'm just glad I don't have to do a chargeback or take them to court.
