How well does sharpie stay on Surface Blanks?

Considering getting a pair of Surface Blanks for this winter and having my artist friend draw on them with sharpie, have any of you done this? Does it come off or smudge?
 
spray over it with a clear coat spray paint when your done. Then do that again every once in a while just to be safe. If you don't seal it will smudge and go away.
 
Sharpie isn't always the best. paint markers like posca paint markers might stay better on surfaces than a sharpie
 
get an acid pen, I use them on equipment at work that gets pressure washed and steam cleaned and never fades, then like the guy above, clear coat them after
