How to widen a Raynox MX-3000

This would be a nice sticky. Here is a tutorial, written by me, how to widen your very own Raynox MX-3000 0.3x Semi Fisheye. First off, you will need to purchase one of the following existing fisheyes: Sony VCL-0637H or Sony VCL-0637S.

Only difference is one has a metal housing and the other is plastic. OK so first step, unscrew the top from the VCL-0637H Wide Angle. Next remove the top and the middle lenses (there are 3, but we only need the middle one). Take the middle lens and place it directly into the middle of the backside (smaller, concaved side) of your MX-3000. This will not stay there, it will hover, so we must secure it. I used simple dollar store poster adhesive.

Take VERY small pieces and roll them into long, thin sausages in your hand. Then, place one on the top and bottom side of the lens as seen in the photo to secure it vertically, then one on the left and right to secure it horizontally. Make sure you only use a very small amount of adhesive so that it will not go over the top. Next you will (using your finger nails) scrape the adhesive off the threading of the lens and push it down to the middle. I also used a pen to push the adhesive down a little further.

Do not push the adhesive too far down, or anywhere on top of the lens. It should only be around the edges. If the adhesive touches one of the lenses, it will leave a residue which is very hard to remove.

I hope I have helped some of you out with this tutorial. Here are some photos taken with a VX2000 with the widened Raynox MX-3000:
