How To Paint Skis

Krylon makes a new paint called Fusion that's better for plastics, they don't have manny colors but you could use a White Krylon fusion as a base coat and put any other type of paint/color as long as the white base is fully dry. The fusion is an oil base but like I said as kind as it's fully dryed/cured your good to go. I love the Krylon paints, their caps have a really nice fan and you can twist them to make a thin line. The bad thing is no matter how well you sand, base and clear their still going to chip, but still looks dope and nice post.
 
I would suggest hanging them on a peg board or any other way you paint them so your not spraying downward, you would get a better paint flow. And lots of light coats of built up clear helps but I don't recommend the Fusion clear, it sucks on dark colors. They have really easy tricks to make a woodgrain, that's what I wanted to do to my old ski's. A marble FX is another really easy trick you can do. Also the water drop FX, but the only hard part about that is letting sit for 14 hours without disturbing it. Oooo I love this tread !
 
ShredWi, was one of the markers you were using a Deco marker? Krylon also sells paint markers that you can find at a true value, the tips aren't as nice/shaped as the deco but holds a lot better then the deco's.
 
Thanks guys. and that paint your talking bout sounds cool but i spent all my money on a new jacket so i went with the cheapest paint i could get
 
I'm sure it would but eventually going to chip. Autobody supply stores sell a spray can adhesion promoters, but sometimes there more trouble then there worth, bully dog is about 15$ a can. As long as you sand it, giving the paint something to hold to. But like he did in the Vid start with a light scuff of 180 grit (metal sand paper, not wood sand paper) and finsh off with 220 or a 320 grit. So you don't see the rougher grit sand paper scratches. Lots of light built up coats of clear with one heavy last coat helps prevent chipping.
 
I would recommend buying a can of white fusion as a base coat instead of a adhesion promoter or primer. Then painting whatever color on top of that would prob be your best bet. That's what iv done on a few helmets iv painted for friends and they still hold up fine.
 
I'm gonna try and see if any of my friends have a trow away pair of skis so I can paint the woodgrain on them, I'll post pics if I can get my hands on some.. The woodgrain is a super easy FX and it only takes about 20mins after the base coats dry. I had my girlfriends 6year old sister painting the woodgrain on a metal panel and it was almost as good as mine !
 
Wait did you really just unscrew the bindings and are going to just screw them back in the same holes?
 
I could work right around the bindings, just take my time tapeing the up.. And I would recommend the Green "Frog tape", the sell green(medium tac) and yellow(low tac) iv never had any paint pull up with the green and it holds down better when I'm in the middle of painting. DONT buy the scotch blue!! The sell 3 types of scotch blue multi surface, reg and delicate. Iv had the delicate pull up paint B4, so stay away from the blue tape.
 
SKINinface that looks dope, nice work! You should look into some prisma color markers, but I do love my sharpies!
 
I usually do most of my stuff with mechanical pencil. But love sharpies. Always tempted to send in some designs for skis. 529937.jpeg 529936.jpeg
