How to mount my Alpha 2's

Ive got a great new pair of Armada Alpha 2's, 09-10 model, and some new Marker Griffon bindings. the recommended mount is 4 or 5cm back I think but i'm looking to ski more park this year. I still enjoy trees too, but really wanna take advantage of the swing weight in the park, so any recommendations on a center mount? Please advice only from people who have skied Alphas before.

Thanks guys

Ben

the alpha is not really a ski you want to take into trees the a2s can only handle some all mountain, if you were really want to progress in park just go center

Are you sure the recommended is that far back? That seems like alot. I thought it was like 2.5 back or something like that.

I have them mounted at recommended, and I really like them there. It would take alot for me to mount anywhere other than recommended. It's recommended for a reason. All of armada's team has skied on them and then they decided where the best point is to mount them. The swing weight is already lower because of the Elf Shoe, so i don't think you would be able to feel much of a difference.

As for tree skiing, they do okay in the trees in the east, where we don't get much snow, but anything out west would be too much for them.

Yeah i'm in the east so that's where i'd be taking them. And you're right i think 2.5 is the factory, i didnt have them with me at the time so that was a guess. But okay that's helpful, do you ever ski park with them?

centre. I did that with mine and I love them. not too great for moguls but of well. alphas shouldnt be used in moguls anyway

No it will feel like true center. If you want a mount a ski center get a symmetrical ski. It will also work fine with asymmetrical ski. But this ski has taper, rocker and a weird sidecut. Its just like the jj. And if you mount the jj to far forward it will ski like shit.

I think the kid mixed up core center and true center. True center is the exact center of the ski from tip to tail.

I did this sorry. But i had alpha 2's for when i was in nz this summer. I mounted them center first they skied fine. Then i ripped my heel piece out and had to remount so i remounted at

-2.5cm. They felt better in every way mounted -2.5. This is what i was trying to say.

mr. pretzel is right on this one children. The alpha 2 is recommended at -2.5 back because that is in fact the center. yes when you lay them on the ground and find the half way point it is going to be in the true center of the ski. but with the way armada designed these skis, -2.5 is the true center of the camber. for those of you who have access to a pair, lay them down and if you actually look at them you will realize that the they are not shaped like a conventional ski. the camber starts a little farther back because of the elf shoe tech they have going on so the center is set back ~ 2.5 cm and mounting at the exact center of the ski will make them feel a tad shorter... everyone can bitch and moan but when it boils down, armada knows their shit. it wouldn't be recommended there for no reason but do what you want, its all a matter of personal preference anyways. also, in one of the many alpha2 threads, someone posted an e-mail response from armada answering this exact question of debate. im not going to find it but it is out there.

Okay I got you. You know more than I do since I skied them. I have a pair of Halos chilling in my room waiting to be riden. So you would say 2.5 is the way? How are they switch at 2.5?

please just mount them at the recommended spot. Armada designs their skis to be mounted where the recommended spot is. They do this to reduce swing wait, so doing a centre mount would be doing injustice to such a great park ski. (especially with the pipe cleaners this recommend spot should be obeyed)

I just measured out my Halos. ~52.5 inches from start of camber to end of camber and ~26.5 inches from start of camber to factory recommended -2.5.

Here is the Armada response posted in another thread back in May:

Thanks for dropping us an email and more importantly for purchasing the Alpha 2.  The factory recommended mount line for the A2 is -2.5cm back of center (our park mount).  As is the is a park engineered ski, and utilizes our EStech, we recommend the park setting over our freeride mount (-5cm).  The A2 can be mounted true center; however, we find most customers don’t like a true center mount on this particular ski.  Most of our athletes will mount between -1 and -2.5cm.  Given that you will be skiing park almost exclusively I would recommend mounting within the range that our athletes tend to mount.  If you have any further questions please let us know.  Thanks again.

Thanks so much for getting me this, that sealed the deal man. +K for you, and really to everyone on this thread for their opinions and help. feel free to keep debating tho cause im always open to other's opinions/experiences

Yeah, same for me. Originally I was planning on true center, but I am doing -2.5 tha is to the email and Mr. Pretzel.

They are carve much better switch mounted at 2.5 and are way more stable.

Also remember that they are a really weird ski so it will take some time to get used to them.
