As a senior in high school, everyone does a "senior project" and for mine, Im creating a rail jam at my local mountain. What are some good ways to market the jam? Event on Facebook, Throw some posters up around the mountain, etc... But does anyone know of some creative ways of marketing that will pull people in?

Any help/suggestions would be great, thanks!

Facebook is Huge, like huge huge. invite every skier/boarder you know.

Make flyers to put up at local business.

Collaborate with the local ski hill/shops, get them to share on Facebook

Have incentive for people not competing to attend. Get reps to come with stickers/free swag

For our competitions (UVMFST) we do

1. Event on FB, get all your friends to invite everyone they know that might be remotely interested

2. Article on NS

3. Posters to put up around campus and on the mountain as well as local shops

4. Thread in Regionals

5. Get anyone sponsoring the event to help share it online

6. Talk about it to everyone you know

Also get the local news crew to come out the night before when you're setting up to cover the story for the late news or something

Another thing is that if there're any local ski clubs/teams near you, contact the coaches so they can tell the team members about it

Great thing you can do is establish a relationship with a big, distributed media (like Newschoolers) and offer them 'media sponsorship' of the event. No money changes hands, but you'd put a bunch of banners up there, hand out some stickers, etc for us and then we'd do a geographically targeted ad campaign to promote the event.

Its very common for events to get a main media sponsor and utilize that to get some fantastic promotion in your target demographic. q

I'm liking all these ideas, I'll be sure to try as much as I can, thanks everyone and keep the ideas coming!

You can definitely email me too, as we love to get involved in this stuff.

On the facebook topic, a lot of brands are doing "regional" pages that are maintained by reps or other local employees. Working with them and getting exposure through those pages is great too.

give out free beer at a table thats advertising the jam. people fucking love free beer

this is coming from someone whos currently drunk on free beer

I will definitely find sponsors, and I have a few in mind with some connections, so free stuff will most likely be there! I'm still in the planning stage of the comp so it won't take place until late February/early March-ish. But really, thanks for all the ideas guys!

I run the ski club at my college and every fall we a movie premier. I post all over social media, make it an event on FB and tell everyone. You can be afraid to talk to people about what you are passionate about. It doesn't matter if they aren't interested at least you are getting the word out and who knows, someone that is passing by will maybe hear you say it and then they will be stoked and tell their friends.

Since you are in high school maybe print out flyers for the teacher to hand out to the student. Put them on bulliten boards. hell put an ad in the local paper.

why would anybody want to go to your rail jam? more importantly, why would anybody want to talk about it?

try to think creatively.

here.

Post it on one of those flyer boards at the VFW. Maybe some old lady will pick it up and give it to her grandson that she sees at the church bizzar on Saturdays.
