incentivize carpooling. start or promote a mountain shuttle service from a central location. seattle could do a ton of that seeing as all the resorts are an hour or so from the city and everyones coming from generally the same place... same for the bay area and denver and.... develop micro power stations for wind/water that can create small amounts of power in lots of locations... theyre calling it micro but its fairly significant; check out whistlers fitzsimmons creek project. maybe promote discount passes for people who carpool only available in a specific carpool parking lot... its a bit more major but putting in a double instead of a quad can be just as efficient (see: crystal's northway or moonlight's headwaters chair... big sky itself ishuge and only has a few high speed chairs). anyway... maybe just think about it a LITTLE bit. its not that hard.
 
Check out skiareacitizens.com for some more info too. They rate resorts on the environmental sensitivity. For example, the failing resorts (i.e. Copper, Sun Valley, Breck, and Mt. Spokane) all propose expansions and do little in terms of recycling, etc. The top ten (i.e. Aspen, Buttermilk, Sundance, and PCMR) all propose no expansion or only limited expansion within the current footprint of the resort. All make an effort to support renewable energy and recycling. In Canada, too, top resorts include Whistler and Panorama, while failing resorts include KHMR and Revelstoke.
