How to Keyframe a mask on after effects(or is there any alternative?)

I've been trying to do an effect where I overlay the video onto the 0 in 2012 and have the video masked out and I then zoom into it, so I set the mask to over the 0 and then I realise that I can't keyframe it, so is there any alternative? pretty badly worded sorry.

i take it the 2012 is moving? what do you need to keyframe if its just in the 0?

Check out Mocha, thats a good way to prevent you from having to do it. I forget what the AE trace thing is called that tracks points in a similar way but both work well.

If I am reading correctly you are looking for a track matte.

But you can also keyframe a mask. Should be able to set a keyframe on position and then move the timeline and then adjust your mask by moving the points.

but when you zoom into zero you could parent your layer to the mask so they both zoom in at the same time.
