How to import go pro in HD (imovie 09)

so i have a gopro and lots of fotty but i cant seem to figure out how to import it to imovie in HD i made an edit and what not but its not had. when i click on the (import HD movies) then search for my clips on my comp they all show up grey and i cant click on them. do i need to import directly from the gopro to imovie and not save them as mp4?help me out im not to tech savvy.

if you have a mac, you will probably need to convert in using compressor, that is what i do, just switch it to a different movie style, like quicktime aic, and you'll be good

drag em off with your card reader, convert to apple intermediate with mpeg streamclip. import. also be prepared. AIC takes up a ton of space
