How to get to Revelstoke for cheap?

I'm trying to take a trip to Revelstoke around the beginning of January since I have an Ikon pass, might as well take advantage. I'm lucky enough to have a friend that gets free flights through United, the problem is that the shuttle to Revy from the airport is well over $100 which is nuts and I'm not about to do that. We're both 19, so we can't rent a car either. Are we screwed? Or is there cheaper options that I don't know about, is it a very hitchhiking friendly area? Open to any ideas

Which airport? Cal or kelowna? Rideshare fb pages fam, its a life saver

Just go young grasshopper. Everything will work itself out. If you have a home base to work from the worst thing that could happen is you two went for it.

Wow thank you so much, I never knew this existed. This might be my move.

its a 2.5 hr drive from kelowna and 4.5 hours from calgary to revelstoke. The 100$ shuttle is your best option unless you search a rideshare site and try and score that way. could be a nice way to save yourself a headache if the roads are shitty and you just wanna get there. Your getting a free flight, take the shuttle yo !

Lol, the only reason I'm going is because of the free flight. If I could afford $200 in shuttles plus a place to stay, and booze, and rides to the mountain, and food, and everything else that goes along with a ski trip, I prolly wouldn't have made this thread. But I agree, clearly the shuttle is the easiest option but that doesn't mean it's not a scam.

Look up poparide. Ita a ride share service that lets people post up long drives they are doing to fill seats in exchange for gas money. They set a reasonable max price for the trip do that you cant get gouged. I used it to get to revy from kelowna and had no issues.

But what airport you flying into? Problem is, Greyhound just shut down so there's no good bus service currently in western Canada. A lot of the province is hitchhike friendly, but If you're flying into Calgary, it's going to be very tough to get across the city and find a good hitching post. Kelowna airport is on the north end of town and is probably set up pretty easy for hitch hiking - but the odds of getting a ride direct is low. Odds are, you'll get dropped off in Vernon and be stuck walking across town to hitch again (and maybe again, and again.... bring a sign).

If your free flight only gets you to Spokane, you're probably fucked for hitch hiking.

There's a few websites for ride sharing around the region. One that is mostly focused for the Nelson area more than Revelstoke but you never know. https://kootenay.ride-share.org/

Here is a Revelstoke based ride share site, but I don't know if it's as well used as the Kootenay Ride Share site. https://www.poparide.com/travel/revelstoke-bc

My bad didn’t see the free flight thing

I honestly don't really know much about Revelstoke or getting there, but I'm assuming Kelowna is my best bet right? I'm flying United, and they go to Kelowna so I think that's what I'll do. I'll keep up on checking the ridesharing sites you guys showed me, I'm cool with hitchhiking but rideshare seems like the move for sure. Or just find some dudes with skis in the airport and see if they have room I guess haha.

It's pretty easy to hitch from Calgary to Golden and from Golden to Revy is jam packed with skiers heading that direction. There is a Golden Rideshare FB page that will have you covered from both routes. It is 2.5hrs from Calgary airport (YYC) to Golden and 1.5 hrs to Revy but you get an hour back with the time change at Roger's Pass.

I am in the same boat kinda

I am landing in kelowna but since greyhound shutdown its a bit shit eh man

I am just gonna hit up the FB pages, you should too. It seems active

It's too difficult and expensive to go to revy and besides it's filled to the nuts with americans anyways. Don't go.

Fly to Kelowna take the Bus to Revelstoke, stay at the motel across from A&W and Mcdonalds so that if you feel like getting something healthy you can get A&Dubs and if you wanna cheap out get Mcdonalds. Go meet buddy at the sand man for a bag of weed cause it's legal and ur g2g you'll find ur way to the mountain
