How to get cheap flight prices

Im looking to fly from montreal or Burlington, to go to portland oregon. I have been looking a sites like expedia, kayak, all of those places. I want to know, in your experience, what is the best place to go, trick to use, any advice to save on my flight there and back.

also I have seen some places take promotional codes, anyone know how to get any?

Oddly enough, the time of purchase depends on price. Check the site between 12 am - 4 am, thats when they usually dip the lowest

cheapoair.comhipmunk.com (their layout is unique and pretty cool) but not always the cheapest per se

and finally... matrix.itasoftware.com is good to search on, but you cant book on their site. they are just a massive search engine run by google

Kayak, when I went to slc it cost me 300$ from burlington. It's like 2 hour from montreal and parking was free
