so we all know half us can find better prices on boots online but you still want to get fitted. how do you go to a shop and asked to get fitted even though you know your buying from somewhere else?

tell them you want to try on a boot, then when your done just say your going to think about it

well you simply go in and get bootfitted and then say you'll come back to buy the boot...

but i wouldn't do that. i would buy the boot at their place if they gave me a good bootfitting. a lot of times the boot prices aren't that bad. and you're supporting the shop.

If they give you a really crappy fit and are just trying to sell you the boot and you know it, just go to a reputable place.

If you get fitted and they do a good job buy it from them. Consider the extra money what you're paying for an actual quality boot fitting. Don't use their services for free, or one day you might find that they're no longer there to provide them. Hey, buying online was always great right? Be honest with them, and see if maybe they'll match an online price or lower theirs a bit.

if you have found a legit site like evogear or backcountry and they have a lower price on the boot, print the page out and bring it with you to the shop. after you have tried on the boots, just be honest and show them the site page. even if they dont match it, if they lower the price close to it, just buy them then and there.

it promises that the boots wont be damaged, and that the shop should give you a free heat molding if it is a decent boot.

plus it is supporting the local shops

this is great advice. i know when i got fitted at my local shop, they matched the lower price of my boot online,.

Very good advice. Most shops will either match the price or give you a reduced price that is closer to the online price. I have received better deals at my local shop than I can get online because I always buy from them. And they'll let me show up and mount my skis immediately when I show up for about $28.

straight up - if you go into a shop and take a bunch of their time getting bootfitted, then go buy the boot online, you're a dick.

that's WHY stuff is cheaper online, you get no service. if you're going into the shop because you don't know what boot to get, and they spend their time helping you, pay the extra 50 bucks or whatever it is to buy it there. not to mention if it's a good shop, you can come back in later with the boot and have them adjust/work on it to make it fit as well as it can, so the extra money is well worth it.

Exactly. bootfitting is rarely a one time ordeal, and its really nice when you can go into town, and within a day or two get that hotspot fixed, or the toebox blown out, etc. Boots just arnt the place to skimp on. scrounge away with your other gear, but boots are worth it to buy from a legit shop.

Like someone else said, if you find a legit deal online, at least approach the shop about working a deal, 90 percent of the time, they'll take your business instead of turning you away.

as someone who has fit boots before...i personally didn't mind too much, since it was too easy to spot out the people who were going to end up buying online. I think if you make it clear to the bootfitter beforehand, then they will choose how much they want to help you out. Everyone is different, but it sucks wasting time with a customer that isn't going to support your shop.

I would never buy boots online. Boots are the most important part of your set up imo. If you dont have comfy boots, skiing can suck soooo hard

Tell them you are going to buy online, at least don't waste their time and then surprise them at the last minute.

Be up front about it, Tell them that you are planning on buying the boot online before[/b] you start trying boots on. If I am not busy, I will most likely be happy to help. We all know what its like to be tight on cash. I am almost always happy to go grab a couple pairs for you to try on. If I am busy, I will probably ask you to wait for a bit, or be much less involved.Keep in mind even if I am flat out board to death before you came along, and you wait until after we have tried boots on to tell me you are going to buy online I am gonna be pretty pissed off.
So let the staff know before they start helping you.

There is a place in banff that does boot fitting and you pay $25 bucks for it or free if you buy boots from them. Not a bad idea I think.

Exactly, i know that at the shop where i work at, would be glad to match the price as long as we know that the boot you're getting is the right one for you, and you are not taking a chance on getting the wrong boot. Plenty of shops have great deals through the summer.

Bingo. Tell them straight up and if they're not busy and feeling nice they'll still help you out. Otherwise don't expect any help from the shop in the future.

Step 1) get on a plane for burlington VT

2)go to skirack

3) pay retail and get a three year fit guarntee!

if at anytime in those three years the boot wears warps or changes they will blow it out cut it up the whole nine yards. I've been back like 3 times to get my agents fitting kosher.
