How to disable AGC on T3i?

I installed ML awhile ago, but noticed today when I was trying to clean up some audio that there isnt an audio option anymore because you can do all the audio stuff on the canon menu now. All I have is the option to enable or disable wind filter and what volume I want to record at, nothing about turning off AGC... Any help pleaase?

I've only shot with a T3i once or twice so I'm not positive, but if it's allowing you to change the record volume then AGC should already be off. The whole point of AGC is that it sets the volume for you, that's really all it is. I feel like there's something that says like 'sound: automatic/manual.' If it's on manual, you're good to go.

Magic lanternGo into the audio settings and there'll be an option that says AGC and then you just hit off. Then you can control the audio levels manually. Other than that there are some hacks where you plug in a weird adapter cable or something but ML is much easier

Do you know what AGC is? Auto gain control. As in it automatically controls the audio gain. If you can control in manually then its not auto......

Yeah I know what AGC, why would I be posting about it if I didn't.... I manually set the gain through the canon firmware and I still got the noise.

Dude all agc does is automatically change the gain. The t3i (and all canon dslrs atm) have really crappy quality preamps (hence juicedlink making low noise preamps), so even if you set it yourself, its still going to be noisy. Your best bet would turn up the signal coming off of the mic and turn down the in camera gain, at least if you need the same volume. You could also just make it quieter (lower db)

how loud do you ahve the volume? the built in mic is pretty shitty, so you're not going to have very good quality regardless, but the louder the record volume is the more noise you'll get obviously

I have a sony shotgun mic and I keep the volume pretty low, but it still has alot of noise. It seems to work alot better with ML, but it doesnt have audio anymore):

I have a T3i myself and I recently looked into this.

I have the the Rode VMP, so what I do is:

I set the level to +20db on the mic. Then I go into the menu of my camera, change the sound recording from auto to manual and lower the volume in camera to one notch above zero. The mic "drowns out" the noise, that is caused by the weak camera pre-amp, with acceptable results.

Though, it doesn´t get as silent as the T2i, using ML to disable the AGC and a shotgun mic. The current stable version of ML do not support manual audio controlls for the T3i.

Last time I checked, the ML guys was still working on this. Here is the test version: (http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=2032.0).
