How to add strap to bike grip pole?

What's the easiest way to add a strap to a pole that the grip has been replaced with a bmx grip? Thanks and +k for help.

When I did that to mine, I cut a slot out of the top of the grip and drilled a home in the top, like a normal grip. Then I filled the slot and hole with epoxy, slide the end of the strap in the put a screw throughout the top hole.

i've been thinking about this as well, i think i'm gonna do mine similar to ^^above

except more like the line dart pole, with a huge bolt in the top ...

i think it looks really cool and homemade :)

just remove the grips that are already there and slip on the new ones? i use dirtbike grips. its the same concept

except that handlebars have a larger diameter than skipoles....

i was thinking of just taping the end with ducttape till the diameter fits, then with a little bit of glue, attach the grips ....

o yeah, forgot to mention that part. i just wrapped the top of the poles in masking tape until the grips fit tight. ill prob add straps before this season

i wana do this too but the whole ski pole is to skinny thing will be hard to duct tape and syuff

i did this last season and they were literally identical to dart poles.. only free instead of like 70$. (never understood why people pay for poles you can find in dumpsters or as singles..)

go to the hardware store and find a star nut that will fit your pole. same sort of thing they use in threadless bike forks.

attach from top with screw/bolt

kinda ghetto but i stuffed two pennies into the bottom of the grip when i put them on then drilled through the top. screw the strap on with a little bit of epoxy and you're good to go

I just wrapped mine in hockey tape until it was the thickness I wanted, since I couldn't get the grips to work how I wanted them to. For a strap I added a wooden cylinder into the hole that was at the top of my pole and screwed the strap into that. Used them for the last 2 months of the season and other than having to add tape in some places they worked great.

so this Summer I did this, but I didn't do anything as far as straps. I just took off my old grips, wrapped the top in electrical tape, and super glued the new grip on. How can I add a strap without taking off my grip? how can I make a strap?

i suppose i could take the straps from a different pair of poles by cutting it off. but, there isn't anything to drill into underneath my grip.

If your grip has an open top, you can make a wooden dowel and epoxy it in the pole and drill into that. As far as a strap goes you can use one from a ski pole(I had an old one laying around) or you could make one out of 1inch webbing.

lol, you guys are so formal

just duct tape a cord on the pole then slip the grip on, use more duct tape if necessary

Im doing this as soon as i csn get some poles. I have the grips already. I wasnt planning on doing straps though since i stopped riding witht them at the beginning of last season. Ever since saw ahmet get owned in realtime ive always wanted the option of just loosing my poles in the air if i want

Just finished my poles for this season. got some purple ODI grips from work and painted my dumpster poles black. (sorry for sideways pic)

my free poles (+10$ grips) > 65$ park poles with the same grips..

the first coat could be chipped with a finger nail... so i made sure i did it right by-

-sanding the old paint off till i had raw poles-three even coats of cheap walmart paint

-two coats of clear coat spray paint

the paint isnt indestructable, but it should look good for a chunk of the season. im just stoked on the grips.

I regripped my poles again after cutting them, and I need to add the strap back. I'll post my solution too, when I get around to it. It's not like I'll be skiing in NJ anytime soon.

Much later...

So I put the grips on, but then chopped the top so it was flat. Since I'm going skiing tomorrow and needed them done tonight, the solution I came up with is

Bottle cap, a classy IBC cream soda. I filled the shaft of the pole with jb weld epoxy putty, then screwed that screw in, through the bottle cap and the straps.

Side shot with generous shadow/highlight adjustments applied. The cap was the perfect diameter to go over the top of the grip, and it seems pretty sturdy. The jb weld is rated at like 900lbs or something, although I'm not sure if that's tension or what.

So if this isn't a thing already, when 13 year olds start putting beer bottle tops on their poles to be cool, you saw it here first.

Dub post and potato quality on second pics, my iPod lens is all dusty...

Anyways I'm glad I painted mine up, they looked dope. You can see em here when they were fresh, and that was a year ago:

Here they are now:

So obviously they have been shredded up pretty good. I took them down right to the bare shaft with aircraft paint stripper, then used a spray gun to get them to the way they looked. I put lots of time into the paint job and made sure to do a professional prep job before and during the paint process so that it would stick, but paint will never be as durable as a factory coat unfortunately.

That's two light coats of primer, three layers of base white, two layers of green, and 3 layers of clear.

I also ride like 90% park so they get chucked around, edges smacked into them in the air, they get turned into javelins, so I think that's a pretty good reason as to why they look the way they do.

I may take them back down to bare aluminium, and use a chemical etch and treatment on them next time around. Paint will stick way better, or I could leave them after the treatment for a cool gold/metallic blue colouring... Hmm...
