How should I handle this (shop fucked up my skis)

I'm not sure what route to take at the moment so I'm asking the NS opinion.

a while ago (around two months) I put some elan bindings on hold, with no money down, under my familys account at this shop in my town, did this because it was the only pair left, the shop owner said they where really good, I know nothing about bindings but wanted to look into them before they got snatched up. In the end I didn't want them, took them off hold a couple days later, and I also made myself an account at the store using my cell number. about two weeks ago I went back and put 150$ down on a pair of rossi bindings, then another payment a couple days ago and finished paying today, this is on my account. My ski's had already been brought to the shop and where just waiting to get mounted (brother took them in, added to the confusion aparently) so I paid for the mounting and the rest of the binding money today and when I picked them up today the elan bindings where on the skis, instead of the rossi ones.

also my skis are faction and the closest dealer of faction is in whistler, but I got them thru a friend for a good deal out east and that takes a week of shipping.

sorry if that background info is a bit long... did't know if I should shorten it or what, but now I have a few options and dont know what to do...

if I tell the shop I dont want my skis re-mounted because it could compramise them, and I want them to get me new skis they might not go for it, if they do however I can get the same deal on the skis as I did before but they would have to pay full price so I would get about 300$ in my pocket. only problem is I want the skis for a comp in about two and a half three weeks, so I probably wouldn't get them in time.

I can get my skis remounted, but I probably wont get much money back and they could mess up and my skis will be messed...

or I could stick with the elan, and try to get a full refund on my bindings (probably not, but more then half the money back because the elan are half the price and they would give me a discount)

and I guess there are other options I could take but the ones I said are the ones iv been thinking of/have been told to me a couple times.

if thats confusing or you have any questions just ask,

and sorry its so long.

so what route would the memebers of NS take?

Don't believe the myth that remounting skis will destroy them or weaken the ski's integrity. Skis can be remounted 1 or 2 times depending on the core construction and where you want them remounted.

Have the right bindings put on for free by the shop. I don't know how old you are, but bring one of your parents with you and be nice about the situation. It was probably an honest mistake.

^My guess is that Elan makes elan bindings... but elan kind of has a rep for sucking dick, i'd go with rossi.

thats why I was so choked when I saw my skis this afternoon.

the elan bindings go up to 14 tho, so im thinking maybe I could just crank my bindings a little bit higher then normal (since they suck?) and get around 200$ back from the rossi ones I bought. or would that be a bad idea?

well, if they go up to 14, they're probly some other companies binding with elan's name on them, I dunno maybe brand name isn't everything in this case.

Din is a standard across bindings. It's the release mechanisms across models that are different. Cranking up the din doesn't always solve the problem. What model are they?

umm I forget at the moment since I didn't actually buy the bindings.

and I know dins are all the same.. I was thinking of doing that just because the elan tend to suck and pop out easily, so then they wouldn't pop out so easily? I dont know tho.

thats a tough situation,

you should ask for the rossi bindings from the store and say you did BUY them... then maybe you will have a free pair of binders. (prob wont work but i would try it)

Honestly, i really feel no sympathy for you if you would get the shop to buy you a new pair of skis without telling them about the discount you get.

Depending on the shop, if you told them about the discount then they would be that much more likely to replace your skis.

IMO, ask them to replace your skis using the price you can get, then ask for the right bindings put on free of charge.

dude i wouldn't have left the shop without figuring it out with the shop owner. sounds like your family has been doing business for a while. it is a shops responsibility to make the customer happy.

they messed up....you should tell them you want them to buy yo the new skis, and have them shipped next day shipping and you want the rossi bindings that you already paid for put on before your comp. that is why you made sure to have everything all worked out before hand adn they messed up, you should not have to suffer becuase of it. and have one of your parents go with you so they dont try to play you. and talk to the shop owner or manager and not jsut some kid working who cant do anything for you. that is what i would do.

you should explain the mix up, and return the rossi bindings and get your money refunded for them, plus the difference of the price of the elan bindings...and if the store is legit they should throw in something extra because that's reallllly shitty that your skis got mounted with the wrong bindings.

It's partly your fault for being indecisive and giving your shop more things to keep track of. Just keep the Elan bindings, what's the problem? Otherwise just remount - why do people get so hung up on extra holes?

At least they put your bindings the right way...

I picked up my lizzies the other day from my shop, and the genius mounted them backwards! I guess if you want to do something properly you gotta do it yourself

Find out what kind of Elan bindings they are first. Since thy are rebranded Tyrolia's, you may have lucked out. I would take a Mojo 15 or an LD 12 over any Rossi any day of the week.

At the least, those skis are only a hair away from symmetrical. Still sucks though, with those crazy graphics I'm not surprised. If I was the tech I would have looked online to make sure I was putting them on the right way.

just have them remount with the rossi bindings and maybe they'll throw in some free shit but really one extra mount is not a big deal

not necessarily. DIN is relative; even though it is supposed to be a "standard," the simple truth is that it is physically impossible to be exactly the same unless all bindings are of the same design and material.

p18 Looks set at 9 won't release when I ski them, but Look px14s set at 13 will pop out when I'm just cruising.

It's not relative. The only thing that changes is elasticity, which has been why rossi/look's can usually be skied at a lower DIN, compared to say a marker, which has almost no elasticity(biometric toe). Bindings might be little different when bench tested, but compensating for slight variations, DIN is universal.

I would ask for new skis because they fucked up. If they dont go for that then i would just stick with the elan binds but get a refund or gift card for the ones you bought and you get the elans for free. If they say no demand new skis again.

you're an idiot. how can bindings made from different companies be all the same? they make the bindings with different materials and with different systems, so automatically you're going to have some differences in release. yes, elasticity changes, therefore you are going to have variations in how different bindings release and therefore a marker binding set at a din of 5, isnt going to be the same as a rossi binding at 5, or a tyrolia binding at 5. DIN is not universal because a din on one binding is diff from another, however an inch is always an inch. if you've ever actually tested binding releases then you'd know this...

back to the thread...and whoever said it was even partly your fault because you were "indecisive" is also retarted. customers arent stuck to one choice and one choice only. its not your fault and i actually commend you for researching before buying equipment because a lot of people dont. however, the mount is obviously a mistake and they should honor that. i doubt you'l get a free pair of skis, because remounting one time really isnt going to be a problem especially since you're remounting with a diff hole pattern. even if you want it in generally the same place it shouldnt be too much of an issue. maybe ask for the money back on the bindings, and get them remounted, and you call it even. or like others said a gift card or some kind of store credit. something is always better than nothing.

Tell the shop owner to sharpen them really really sharp to cover for the mistake. Then when he gives the skis to u slit his throat t with your edge

Extra holes in your skis do matter. Please write and ask any ski engineer or KNOWLEDGABLE shop tech. They'll explain how this affects your core and overall ski integrity.
Shops seem to be fucking up more and more skis lately. I trust two people to work on any of my equipment - Kyle Bihler at Bobo's in Reno and Gabe at Reno Mountain Sports. I've seriously mailed shit to them from Washington because I found someone I trust. It's really that important. Ask around and find someone with a very solid reputation. Speak up when a shop does good work and help everyone out.
Let's not forget how much most people spend on skis. It's one thing if you have a sponsor or good hookup and can easily get a new pair next year. It's a whole nother deal if you just shelled out $300 to $700 for skis you need to last several seasons. Then putting extra fucking holes in my skis matters a LOT!
Think of it this way - try selling a brand new pair of skis on here for full value vs. a pair that's been drilled once, or in this girl's case now twice. It's like the difference between a brand new car and putting 40,000 miles on my car. Yeah it still runs, but it's now depreciated a lot and nowhere near brand new. Imagine what your brand new car is worth now...
You mave have been vague on your directions or confusing, but I would never work on someone's gear without double checking to ensure it's done the way you want.
Bad shops anger me.
