How Quickly Something You Love Can Change.

Recently one of my very close friends and one of the most progressive skiers i've ever known was just involved in an accident that could change his whole life. Last year he started out the season only knowing how to do things like 720's and rails. But throughtout the year he pushed himself so hard that he taught himself how to do just about every trick in the book. Misty 9, rodeo 9, etc. Right when winter was over we were informed by our local mountain about remoldeling and how they are getting a bag jump. Instantly the hype train around my town was at full speed for winter. My friend was probably the most stoked out of all of us. Everyday he was telling us about tricks he was going to throw. We would all hangout and he would show us his dub cork 14's on the tramp bragging about how he's gonna stomp them this year. But yesterday everything changed. It was just a normal day jumping on the trampoline. Not pushing himself at all just doing trick that are normal for him but still very complicated. dubs left and right. Everything seemed fine until he threw a trick and got lost in the air and landed on his neck. He was air lifted into dartmouth hospital. we were recently informed that he broke his neck and is paralyzed. The doctors are saying that he has a very low chance of recovery. All his family and friends can do now is pray for his wellbeing. I wanted to share this story with newschoolers to tell you that you don't know what is gonna happen. Life is so unpredictable and evil. I hope Everyone on NS will help your fellow slayer and hope and prey that David Hudgik is going to be alright.

Very tragic.

Not to thread jack/be a dick, but how many of you guys who say shit about "praying" for him, actually pray?

I really hope he makes a recovery, he is obviously so motivated to ski normally, that he probably has an awesome mental game for recovery.

I really hope this kid gets better. I can't imagine the amount of stoke this kid had in his head for the season. It sounds like if he has even the slightest chance of recovery he will push his limits in physical therapy.

why would you say that here? sounds like he landed right back on the tramp, not sure how pads or a net would have helped.

sorry to hear that though, that sucks. tramps definitely scare me a little because of things like that

not so much the net but if they had a pad to throw in, like they do for Olympic athletes it might have helped a bit.

But still, lets hope for the best and that the chance of recovery becomes a reality.

Wow, that is so terrible, so sorry to hear that, mad +vibes to him and his family, and I hope he recovers.

You always here miracle stories of people coming back from paralysis, hopefully your friend will be one too. I'm not sure how bad he is, but go visit him, and once he's in better spirits, watch some ski edits. If anything, his love of skiing will make him want to recover more than anything. You should keep your head up too, watching something like that happen in front of you can mess with someone for life. And maybe even if he doesn't recover completely, people can kill it on a monoski.

chill out he asked a legit question

i almost broke my neck on a trampoline but you can't let fear get in the way

+vibes and hope he at the very least can get back on skis

vibes man, dont give up, a dude faced the same thing last season and after the swelling was away he was able to move pretty much everything.

and i hate to say it in such a thread, but more people need to realize how dangerous tramps and even airbags are.

its not applicable in this case, but its not a "safe" way to try everything. people need to stay within their levels and not cheat themselves out via tramps and airbags.

i experienced way too much bullshit going on on tramps and airbags, its not even funny. broken ankles, vertebraes (tramps), the dude i mentioned above and another guy breaking vertebreas on an airbag.

SPREAD THE WORD: BE CAREFUL, BE CAREFUL ON TRAMPS AND AIRBAGS. DO ONLY WHAT YOU CAN DO. DONT GO FOR THAT DOUBLE HYPE IF YOURE NOT READY. WHEN YOU REACH AN AGE OVER 20 YOU WILL KNOW WHY YOU SHOULD THINK ABOUT STUFF LIKE THAT.

again, not applicable in this case as he seemed to ski pretty legitly, but i am talking about these upcomers/newbies that risk too much and dont think about consequences.
