How much was your ACL surgery?

Hey so I need this for an essay. If you could just say what you know about your surgery, that would be great.

Just tell me, if you can, whether you were an outpatient vs. inpatient, hamstring graft vs. patellar tendon graft, and an estimated cost of total expenses (anesthesia, basic hospital costs, etc.)

Also, tell me if or how it was paid for:

Did you have insurance that covered it completely, or was some out-of-pocket?

Did you even elect to have the surgery, or was it to expensive?....etc.

It doesn't matter what country you're from either.

If you're not comfortable about stating costs, don't, just tell me what type of procedure it was.

And if you want, state how long your rehab took and if you're back to full strength, costs and how rehab was covered as well.

Thanks ya'll.

Ex: I had a patellar tendon and bone graft, a meniscectomy, and was an inpatient. Total expenses were around $14,000. Insurance covered all expenses, even physical therapy, which was four months.

I tore ACL and MCL. had the patella tendon thing to fix it, recovery was around 13 months. inpatient procedure.
with everything totaled up I believe it was around $12,500 or more. insurance covered all but a few hundred dollars (dumb physical therapy machine misunderstanding)

I had patellar tendon, using the bone plugs (i dont know if thats what you mean by bone graft) from my kneecap and shin. I had the surgery in june, but im still doing rehab and probably will for another couple of months.
im not sure what the total cost was b/c my parents kept that away from me. I think after insurance and all that shit, they still had to pay 2000 or 3000
i had once a week rehab appointments that were covered by our insurance + a $15 co-pay

I haven't gotten surgery yet, but my mom did hers. She had the patella tendon, not sure about the bone graft thingy. It was about $13,000 I think. Paid for all of it, but not enough for the full time of physical therapy. She ended up going to this rehab gym after the PT money ran out.

I'm from canada so its covered by my insurance and its gonna be about a month before I get it. If I were to get it done at a private clinic it would cost $7,000.

so my "communist" country (austria) billed me exactly
0 € (~ 0 $)
for one ankle surgery, several treatments of concussions, partially-torn ligaments, tonsillectomy and so on. so for me, an overall insurance provided by the state is the way to go

0$ surgery, had to pay like 1/3 of the price for knee brace and about 150$ for rehab in nov & dec, but got it free again from jan

10,000 for the first one which was a patellar, than the second one was 19,000 but i switched doctors and it was a cadaver

So for all you socialized insurance, mine-cost-nothing guys, was your repair sufficient enough to where you could feel that you were back to or over 100% better? Or was your repair just shitty?

So mine was all through worker's comp since I tore it while I was on the clock, but it was an ACL and MCL tear with the patellar tendon used and a bone graft. It was outpatient, and about a 12 month recovery I guess. Hasn't quite been 12 months yet, but close enough.

well, the head of the surgery department (of a a clinic that is very experienced with bones/ligaments surgeries since 20 resorts are in the nearer surroundings) repaired my ankle.
and it would somehow be weird if i could go over 100%, imo you shouldnt feel better than before, i guess that is only possible in some rare cases.
of course, you can get (on average) better surgery in private clinics. but it all comes down to price-performance-ratio and when you can get a better than decent surgery for free, i know you would take that too.your system has its advantages, clearly, no people get carried with that contribute nothing. but i dont have to fear that i wont be able to afford a doctor, NO MATTER WHAT.

must've been an inpatient procedure, and the increase to 19k was probably for the cadaver and the physician raising his prices or having personal lab equipment....

I got my surgery back on March 4th. My mom told me today that the surgery cost $20,000. Same exactsurgery as my mom got and hers was only $13,000 two years ago, same doctor, everything. And that 20 grand is just for the surgery, not including anesthesia or anything else. And teh good ole insurance company paid a hefty $2300 of it. Sick. Now I feel like an ass doing this to my knee and having to make my parents pay all that money. Fuck the US healthcare system.

sucks

without making fun of anyone, i am just glad that my country does provide a general health care (as i have a few times in this thread). just pointing it out. as much as i love skiing, if i was risking 10k or so every 2/3 years, i would have to stop doing it.

i got a hamsting graft, it was outpatient, im really not sure about cost because insurance is covering it 100%, including 5 ish months of rehab and i think 1 month of the bridge program, which gets you back to top sport condition. it should be 5 or 6 months until i am back up to par.

Never mind.... I was confused when my mom told me. The surgery cost $20,000. Insurance paid only $2300. nothing else is owed. I guess the doctors make most of their money off people without insurance or with insurance that doesn't cover as much. The health care system is still confusing as fuck to me though.

Torn ACL and medial meniscus. Hamstring graft and cadaver tendons. Outpatient, not exactly sure how much it cost but insurance paid 70% the other 30 we had to pay/couldn't so I'm getting called by collection agencies.

pateler graft, outpatient, almost 20 grand with therapy and braces and all that stuff. insurance took up most of the bill like 85% or something like that
