How much longer are we going to have endure the awfulness that is..

Shaky footage with random zooms and awful cuts. Thought this "style" would have died out 2 years ago. Alas it has only gotten worse with more people using it to create what should be short edits of skiing to become long edits of shaky b roll footage. Track suits are partly to blame for the shaky footage, we all know how cold you people are in those and it shows in the footage. The editing on the other hand is incomprehensible and just sad, no one cares about your 1990s Friends outfit while you sit on the couch then zoom in and cut to someone waving their hands. How much longer must we suffer with what will be looked back on as a giant mistake in skiing ?

haha i kind of like the return of stupid stoney edits. it's nice how we have it all nowadays, it used to be one thing for 3 years, next thing for 3 years, etc...

it seems to me that most people who hate on new styles of skiing are also the ones who believe that the late 2000s/Tall T era was some sort of "Golden Age" of skiing that will never be topped. Just because PBP and Level 1 released their best movies then and that's when you got into skiing doesn't mean it was the dopest time ever. I think the skiing today is the sickest that's been done since the early 2000s because people are inventing new tricks again.

Also most glide cam edits are made by people with little talent who just spend a bunch of money to look "professional"

Some might say right now with Big Picture, Seeking Nirvana, and Good Company is a golden age.

Skiman has been in Good Company videos. Thought you hated track pants?

Track suits aren't warm but people are skiing them resulting in shaky footage, merely connecting the dots not hating.

You mad bru?

If we're bitching about filming I guess I'll add in the low angle and then pushing the camera into the rail all shaky after every shot.

There will be some amazing riding but I'll stop watching because I can't handle 4 minutes of those kinds of rail shots. It should have just stayed in skating.

Shots fired... But honestly I'd rather watch an edit by an aspiring filmer with somewhat smooth shots who dropped the cash to as you said look "professional" than an extremely up close and shaky edit filmed with the "dad cam" they bought at the thrift shop along with uninsulated track pants.

And yes I agree with this, there could be some amazing skiing but even a little variety between shots would make it less boring. I get it's trying to be like skateboarding but come on there is definitely more than one way to shakily point the potato.

edits are all about variety, too much zooming is just as bad as too much fisheye under the rail, tripod, or follow glidecams.

what kills me is when someone has a really cheap/shitty fisheye and the vignette goes all the way around the frame. crop that shit or at least zoom through dudes

I don't mind fisheyes. VX footage can be super cool when done right. I've seen edits filmed on dad cams that I've loved, and I've seen edits filmed on glidecams that I've hated (and vice versa).

Also people need to move the fuck on. The thug era isn't coming back. Everyone saying "Lul dum park skiers all you do is swerve around in your track pants" needs to fuck right off.

Move the fuck on is the point being presented this style of skiing is well played out.

Seems that you have a strong stance on this style and are defending fairly aggressively. When the tides shift and there is still a new style will you be the one saying this new style is whack and the best skiing was in days past?

It is clear many of you look at these type of skiing and want to emulate it, but where is the fun of creativity when you are simply doing as others do?

I don't think that New Wave style is played out just yet (Hence the name new wave). New Wave will be played out when track pants and wizard hoods become the new norm (like tall t and saga).

I will welcome the next new style trend with open arms. I loved the thug era, but the scene just got over saturated. Everyone was doing the same thing and it got old. Eventually the same thing will happen to New Wave.

The whole idea of wearing a track suit to go skiing in is the most gaper thing of all time.. what happens when those pants get wet? It is by far the worst trend in skiing since rocking a du-rag like a tail... you guys are cooked... get of the meth pipe stop skiing and go to a football match in Bulgaria..

I have to agree with my fellow blue name on this one, wearing a track suit seems like it would suck.

Agreed, looks properly gay

Also, most of the people that have glide cams don't know how to use them, resulting in even more shaky footage.

Wait but by that logic, will the new wave still be considered not played out even after it's played out because of it's name? Or will New Wave be renamed something more fitting like "Scarecrow style" or "Inflatable tube man style" after its played out when people finally realize its dumb.

Absolutely love this

I don't care that much about the editing or filming style....as long as it doesn't get in the way of the skiing. That goes for slow mo, jump cuts, fisheye and shaky cam. I probably dislike fisheyes the most. They make sense in some instances but a 3 dollar fisheye on your iphone 4 makes it impossible to tell whats going on. I shouldn't have to squint to see whats going on. Everything in moderation

If it catches my eye, therefore holding my interest past the intro I'm sold if fucking Britney Spears is playing in the background. I don't give 2 shits about "earthquake cam" if the shredding is legit.

Not a fan of this style of filming at all. However, I am a big fan of Aiden Ulrich's editing and filming for The Troupe. He takes some themes from this style, but keeps the overall edit pretty clean, and makes it his own. Nothing else like it.

Hopefully not long...

smh. coming from the dud that literally has no idea what his own style is.

shouldn't matter if you film HD/SD or fisheye/glidecam... shitty filming is shitty filming. Everything else is personal preference. diversity is a good thing to have.

How much does it bother you that these all these dudes are infinitely more popular than you ever have been or will be?

No need to be a dick to someone on the rare occasion that they post an opinion on NS.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone skied the way they enjoy to ski and be happy for other people who are skiing the way they enjoy to ski?

Haha love how people hate on other peoples style. Personally track pants are dumb, but it is such a movement in skiing that it causes threads like this that it makes me back them. The only thing that is stupid about skiing is people who try to be a skier they aren't. Ski your own style, be a leader, not a follower

Firstly that's not even true lmao.

Secondly at the end of the day Nick is a much better skier than all of 'these dudes' so that's what really matters

Based on what criteria? I mean yes, Nick Goepper is a beast when it comes to technical and fast spins, but that doesn't automatically mean he's the "better skier"... There are plenty of other skills you can compare.

You answered your own question haha. I was speaking technically, which imo is the most important, but that's just me.

Nick is a much better *contest* skier.

Not exactly my cup of tea, and I'm pretty sure most of the people on this site would agree with me. I cant remember one memorable Goepper edit/segment in the last 3 years, but the bunch/hood crew have put out tons of awesome, groundbreaking content that I've really enjoyed. Sorry if my comment came off as overly douchebag.

Track Suit Gang still got shooters out here
