How much better is skyrim than oblivion?

so im getting skyrim for christmas and wanna buy oblivion tomorrow to get a feel for the story line. how much better can i expect skyrim to be?

Oblivion is amazing. Skyrim is oblivion with a different story and better graphics. So yes, it's better. I think oblivion has a certain charm that is somewhat missing in skyrim though. Both games are easy 100+ hour games

I thought oblivion was a steaming pile of feces. However, i love skyrim. It was the awful storyline in oblivion that killed it for me. there are these demon gate things that SUCK. there are like 10 of them and they take forever to clear, and everything in skyrim seems so far improved over oblivion that it would be hard to go back. just my 2cents

You don't need to play Oblivion to play Skyrim. Sure you'd probably have a better understanding of certain dialog but I haven't found to much of a lack in understanding. Anyway, I played Oblivion for maybe 3 or 4 hours and i got 32 played on Skyrim and id say it a 3/1. Graphics are a huge thing for me though.

I don't have skyrim, but from what i have heard it is very noob friendly. If you found oblivion bad you really know nothing, sorry. If you ever played morrowind you would know how big of an improvement it was from one of the best games for xbox. My only problem was that they had the most useless dlc. Horse armor? Are you fucking kidding. Thats almost as bad as the skins in gears 3.

Still the best game ever is tales of vesperia

I'm looking to get it for christmas as well. Have the prices lowered at all since the release? and is there/how is the online gameplay?

no online gameplay, but both games are very very fun. Skyrim is definetely better than oblivion, but oblivion is worth playing.

Yeah just want skyrim soo bad but my mom said I can't get it till x mas but she said oblivion was ok for me to get now. Post number 490.... Aww yeah

Coming from a kid who put well over 200 hours into Oblivion, Skyrim is everything I could have wished for and more. The only disappointment is the downgrading of the item menu system, but it's nothing catastrophic; it's just a little too basic.

you will LOVE oblivion, if that is your style of gamejust because skyrim is out that doesnt mean oblivion is obsolete, especially since you haven't played skyrim

i would say skyrim is more "immersive" but the questing in oblivion is sooo addicting.

1 get them both

2 love them both

3 go skiing

4 be happy

I played morrowind and liked it better than oblivion personally. to each his own i guess. horse armor was bullshit but it wasnt like you had to buy that useless crap

im getting skyrim for x mas too and i cant wait. i hav replayed oblivion like 10 times as different types of characters... not as good the 2nd time around but still wicked fun... takes so long to play easily 150 hours plus some

For me, Skyrim filled in all the holes that were left by Oblivion. Much smoother, much prettier, and it's providing an overall more finished game for me.
