How many skis are necessary?

I saw pics of some setups where they had like four pairs of twins. I can understand like different racing or powder skis, but is it that beneficial to have so many pairs of skis? Do you go that often? Enlighten me, I am all ears.

because they can. and you need phat skis phat foo fo phat pow and stompin phat air on phat jumps in the phat park.

Maybe I dont understand the "because they can" part. Mainly because I am dirt broke and can only afford one pair.

Yeah, i have two pairs... Chronics and some 4 year old Mike Nick pros. I just kept the Mike Nick Pros for jibbing and such.

isn't it kinda obvious theyre rich... if i was rich i would have like 10 pairs of 4 frnts and 9 pairs of aramadas ..... that would be the best

i only have one pair of skis now, but i may get pipe skis (they help because you buy a stiffer ski and dont slide rails to keep the edges sharp, and i imagine if you lived out west you would need BC skis and maybe some crappy urban skis.

well living on the east coast, I am mounting up another pair... gonna keep the PEs for all mtn, park and some jibbing and gonna mount the old 1080s for pure local park and jibbing, its just when Im not doing anything but riding rails I don't want to risk edge cracks this early in the season and I want to have skis that will perform on the icecoast till feb, then I don't care

If a quiver is set up correctly, it can make skiing that much better. Also, if you ski 75, 100, or more, days a season like a handful of people around here, yes, it's totally worth it. I've got 5 pairs, but they all serve a specific purpose:

191 ANT - pow/charging

189 Gen1 Pistol - AT

186 Spat - deep

183 M103 - everyday resort

179 PE - park

I have 4 pairs, but am by no means rich!

I have a pair of Dynastar Candides from 5 yrs ago, i bought second hand from a rental shop.

I have a pair of Scratch BC's, 4 years ago, i worked in a bar for the summer to afford, used them for 2 full seasons.

Have Line Chronics from last year. Got them cheap as i work in a shop.

Elizabeths this year, same as before, got them super cheap.

I don't need that many skis, i just hang on to them for a while!

i have a k2 public enemy that i use for everything, and then a Line Darkside for when im in Tremblant and not skiing park

i just got new PE's and im gonna use my old mavericks to learn rails on around the yard and as shit skis in PA at school

atomic tweaks are now my beater skis, seth vicious my main babies, and i have a pair of 1st gen currently unmounted 1080s and a old pair of x-screams

i think three if you take it really serious.....depends what kind of skiing your in.

For newschooling: 1 Crapy Urban skis

1 Good park skis

1 Good Fat BC twins

For Backcountry: 1 Fat BC downhill skis

1 Mid/Fat touring ATskis

It all depends.

yea i currently have one pair, but in about a week i will have 2.one is for some park but more big mtn, my other is for park and rails/urban

yeah. one pair of skis CAN ride everything, but it is def. nice to have access to multiple skis.

ideally,

1 pair of beaters, for urbans/rocks

1 pair of super sharp pipe skis (also makes a good carving ski)

either one all around park ski, or a super soft ski and a stiffer park ski, for jibbing and big jumps respectively.

a fat ass BC ski if your lucky enough to need one.

and possibly some non twin all mountain skis.

i curently have a pair of park/all mountain skis, a pair of soft park skis/beaters, and a pair of recently retired urban skis.

Seriously, skis kick ass. It is just so fun to be able to use different skis from time to time. Honestly, you probably only NEED one pair. MY ARV's kick ass everywhere and I would have no problem using them everyday. However, it is fun to use the scratches sometimes cause I ski them with a differnet style. Some days I feel like just charging so the ARV's are great. Some days i feel like just dickin around and jibbing shit so the scratches are a little more maneuverable for that type of style. Being able to use different skis succesfully makes you a more versatile rider.

spend ur money on things ur ganna have fun with.. i wanna buy ski go ahead, some people buy cameras or a shit load of outerwear or like editing shit.. if u have the money and want something get it!

I need 4 skis, all very neccessary.

190 Igneous FFF - Powder

189 K2 Seth Vicious (for sale - Being replaced by a 184 Capital El Jefe) - Everyday

183 Volkl Gotama w/ Freerides - Touring

179 Seth Pistol - Park

Basically that same as everybody, 1 pow, 1 everyday, 1 park....but I need a touring ski as well.

I need 3 pair.

Jp Vs.Julien for pow days at shreadows

4frnt Stl for park and all mountain

Tanner Hall pros for urban..

i do want a head super carve ski with a computer chip in it for spring groomer sessions but i dont have 900 bucks for a ski.

3 pairs, 1.jumps 2.rails/urban 3.pow

but only two for the east coast cause uh... pow where i live is not pow at all

in reality you need one pair of skis.

two is nice.

and for me three you be ideal.

right now i have new mojo 80's wich i use you urban and park

and mojo90's for skiing and jumps and such,

but by comp season ill be wishing for another pairs of 80's becuase my 80's will be torn to shit, the bases wont slide very fast, and i dont want to have to detune the edges on the 90's so i can grind and such.

yeah I agree with you, perfect for where I live. Or just get a new pair a year. I usually get a pair of skis mid-season for my brithday (from mom and dad) and then maybe find a pair of older skis at a swap for urban and backyard.

i only have one pair cause idont ski that often but here is what you need multiple pairs of skis for:

1.Rails-fucks up edges

2. Jump-Need edges

3. Backcountry-or powder-wider ski

4. all mountain ski can also be your jump ski....

you really only need one pair. I have 2 now because my old fujatives are beat up but I still use them for rails and some park but I got some scratch BCs for BC pow and some jumps. I find it's nice to have more than one pair but really you only need one
