How many of you get denied for scolarships because you come from a white middle-class family

I got 5 grand (the college costs 41 grand) and I live in a house with a single unemployed mom.

Guess college is a no-go for me this year.

because scholarships should be for those who need it. thats why i didnt really search too hard to apply for any. my family can afford my education.

Yeah agreed... that seems really silly. You wouldnt be the only one to choose a different school based on cost, trust me on that one hehe~

It was a stretch and I didn't think I was going to get in. Plus, I figured I'd get a lot more money than that and it's the perfect college for me (besides the whole cost thing)

But Mass Art is only 10 grand, so I guess I'll be there instead.

lolz u make white middle-class family sound bad, that's a good thing for the new american life. it should be like How many you get denied for scolarships because you come from a black/ poor family

fuck affirmative action. it's such bullshit. alright i understand that minorities and women were treated unequally....a fucking hundred years ago!

so now "we" get treated unequally to make up for it? fuck that. all these women want "equal treatment" and they get treated better than all men.

happy now drew? oh i do feel that way though.

i got the shaft, my parents combined income is about 45k a year, i got about 2,000 in scholarships (honor society and all kinds of other stuff all through HS) Im going to a state school in NY even though i made it into every place i applied to, lifes a bitch man. Id rather have the big debt then be stuck in a broke dick family in a trailor park that from the time your 14 you have to pull a full time job and skip school otherwise you get what food stamps and the salvation army gives you

ya ok fag, being a white in the world is +

being middle class wealth wise in the world is a big +++

so don't make it sound unequal and bad

fucken idiot

Shit I got denied so many times for the whole your parents make to much. Yeah my parents also payed for most of my older brothers school but with the shit economy I'm going to foot most the bill but luckly I got a scholorship for high 20's ACT and some for leadership but I should have gotten just about everything covered. I think college should just be harder and more selective and factoring out race and gender so everything is equal that way for the people who should be going there is more money for them.

it should be like How many you get denied for scolarships because you come from a black/ poor family

^that's what i'm talking about dude.

poor/black people GET scholarships because of that you dumbass. oh good insult on the whole fag thing too. and it's fuckin, idiot.

somethings not right there... most private schools, if not all, are need based. if you get in, and need money, they give you what you need. so either your schools not need based(again id be surprised) or else the governments hookin your momma up

its so awsome being part native american, just a teensey little bit gets me my own casino/land/possible dirt cheap tution. Thats what you get for taking our land! But really, affirmative action is a bunch of shit, even though I am part native american, it should all be equal, we shouldn't be going around trying to punish people that had nothing to do with an event that occured hundreds of years ago

so i'm being bashed for my spelling,, i don't fukEN give a shit how i spel , i don't take my time and i just type because were not in school were on fuken newschoolers

Community college is a pretty good alternative, or even first choice, because you get virtually the same academics as any other 4 year school for the first 2 years, just not a college experiece, if you will. My friend with a 3.7 is going to community college as a first choice because of cost.

affirmative action was started to level the playing field. thats what it supposed to be doing. its to give blacks more opportunities to become valued members of society. now supposedly even though they are born with a strike against them in some aspects, the playingfield is more even because they can get better educations.

i have a real problem with affirmative action. the problem lies not in colleges but in our elementary and high-schools. if minorities had equal and better schooling, the hardworking ones would have just as good a chance to get into schools as whites.

poor/black people GET scholarships because of that you dumbass.

dat parte retawd.

oh and nevermind then drew, i was just wondering.

I forgot where it was but a few years ago i remember hearing on the news about a dean at some college in i think RI getting charged with a hate crime because he tried to make an underprivlaged white boy scholarship. It was for poor white males and people said it was discriminating against everyone else. It got thrown out i think but its still bullshit that something like that can happen when every school has at least 100 black or hispanic or womens scholarships but nothing for white boys

lifes a bitch dude.

the only part about being whit that is unfair is when the black kid yells at the teacher and doesnt get in trouble, but when i yell at the teacher i get fucked by the long veiny cock of detention

although this became one big paragraph, i agree completely with your second paragraph. if we would fix the problems early on and "level the playing field" when they are younger so they got equal, not above but equal education we wouldn't have to do this stuff such as give them more opportunities later on which are unfair.

yeah we are, but affirmative action is not the way to fix things. it's a temporary fix to a problem that is much bigger. and it fucks hard working people out of things, not a good program in my eyes. if they would fix the problem in the beginning (better schooling in earlier years, like i said) they wouldn't have to have these shitty programs.

i mean when you have a white guy who worked just as hard/harder than a woman for a job, and he has a better resume and is overall better for the job and she gets it, something is wrong. just an example.

i'm all for helping underprivledged people no mater what color they are but i think it is bull shit to only help one race and only give aid to a specific race and not the most needed....

more than both my parents.

Just get a skill of some type and get a scholorship on that. A kid in my band is getting 2k from bowling, 5k from automotive technology, and 5k from 3d technology, he has to double major to keep his scholorships but still.

its not a temporary fix. its put in attempt temporarily as a permanent fix. once blacks have established themselves in society, they will not need the advantage granted by AA. they will put their kids in private schools and give them an education which prepares them for the college process. although i see the reasoning behind affirmative action im not so sure i agree with it

and she has to deal with the whole workforce seeing her as incompetent and only getting the job because shes a women.... its not that easy shawn. .

how about the fact that kids that posted in this exact thread, have been fucked out of scholarships that they should have earned. except for the fact that they are given to other kids who probably didn't do half as much as they did. but they're black so they get it? i think that is pretty good evidence in my eyes. and yes i know that the black kid had harder conditions in school etc. etc. but that is why i'm trying to say the entire program is flawed and needs to be reevaluated.

actually i beg to differ about the second paragraph. my dad's friend is the owner of a few state farms around my area, and he has told us this exact thing many times. in fact he has even admitted he has had to turn down MUCH more qualified men for jobs because he has to meet a "quota" of so many different ethnic backgrounds and genders that he has to employ. and the 3/4 to every dollar is irrelevant simply because she got the job partially based on the fact that she is a woman. and there is a more qualified man who can do a better job, still unemployed.

The amount of opertunities given out to minorities is ridiculous alot of the people you can give them all the opportunities in the world and their still not going to do shit because they think school is stupid and would ruin there street cred or that they are to stupid, pathetic, lazy, unqualified you pick. The people who want to make a better life and who don't mind working hard need some help to level the playing field which they completly deserve but most of the time they get more help than they need. Also instead of throwing money away to send someone unqualified for college there should be alot more job/skill training which would benifit all races and would clear up space/money in college

i have to say i agree with this post pretty much completely. i agree that people these days get handed things way too much. my household income is around 100k and i have to say that i pretty much work pretty hard in school. i still don't agree with the fact that they get a little more help. i still think that they need to get rid of the program all together and just do some type of educational reform of some sorts. i don't know, it's late i'll "take my losses" and go to sleep.

i went to give you negative karma but you were already on zero.

too bad we cant go below that.

idiot. go get your dick rubbed by some dudes you crooked boner faggot.

Yo, you should read "Taking Affirmative Action Apart" By Nicholas Lemann. He has great, valid points of why affirmative action is not the best course of action, that are easily defendable. I can't find it online because of copyrights, but I think you'd honestly enjoy reading it.

it has nothing to do with me. i feel i will get into college fine without having to worry about not getting accepted because some girl got accepted over me because of affirmative action. but what about the white kid who's family makes maybe 50k a year that struggles to pull a 2.8 GPA and gets rejected because of that? yeah, i think that's pretty unfair. alright i'm officially done now.
