How long is too long

i’m wondering if i can get away with 186s. i’m 5’9 135 and ride 176s right now and someone’s selling 186 magnus 90s for cheap. wanted to ask around and see if it’s doable or if i’ve got my head up my ass trying to save money and end up not being able to ride something so long

Big skis big steez OP.

I'd say do it, and if they're too big right now, do some squats and hang upside down this summer so you get stronger and taller.

I ride some 182 true lengths in the park and I’m 5’8”. I think you’d notice the weight more than the actual length tbh People adapt

Mag 90s had hella rocker and ride shorter, they’re also a really light easy to move around. I think you’ll be fine.

At the end of the day it’s up to you, but if you can’t turn them, you only have yourself to be upset with. I’m 5’9” and would say my upper limit is 183 for like, park stuff and getting rad. Anything longer than that, even with hella rocker, is pushing it. In the pow really long skis are stupid fun, and you could probably ski them, for sure, but if ur buying them for jibbing purposes go shorter and you’d enjoy it more.

Sounds kinda long for a park oriented ski. I'm 5'10" 155 lbs and usually ride 178-184 for an all-mountain or park ski, 186-196 for a powder ski.

If you like to spin, the swing weight of a too-long ski will hold you back. It'll also be harder to flex them in butters. IMO you can get strong and muscle around a huge ski in the turns but you can't overcome the huge swing weight as easily in the air.

On the flip side, stability on landings is better with a long ski, especially the soft snow/natural/sketchy type.

Have people who downvoted this even rode mag 90s? I Had two pairs in my day, one in 171 when I was 5’7 and a pair in 176 when I was 5’8-5’9ish. Both pairs felt short, especially looking back at it. I’m 5’11 and still ski on the 176 mags in the street and they feel insanely short and beyond unstable. They’re super super easy to move around and it barely feels like having skis on your feet. They definitely do ride short and are really light and maneuverable. I really think if you’re 5’9 186 wouldn’t be crazy pushing it. I’d almost recommend a 181 normally for someone your hight for rocked symmetricish park skis.

186 isn't awful for 5'9 cause im on some jets which are 180 and im 5'6, they work fine but are a little too long. Considering they're magnus 90s and have hella rocker I think you'd be fine, long skis make you worse at skiing though beware.

I'm 5'9"/165 and ride 184-186 for all of my skis these days. I haven't had a pure park setup for a while, but I still think I would much prefer something in the 180-190 range over 170-180, especially if they're center mounted. IMO that length just gives you more options.

just keep in mind on3ps measure longer than most skis. My 187 woodsmans are the same length as my 189 vishnus

I’m 5’11 and like what I guess is considered a slightly shorter ski for my height (181-184)

it’s personal preference really when you are nitpicking 5-8cm
