How long does it take to learn how to scissor with skis?

The last few days I've been trying to learn how to scissor and progress on rails. That being said, I've been practicing for awhile and I don't have a grip on scissoring yet. How long do you need to practice before you understand scissoring?

doesnt matter how long it takes, keep practicing and skiing and having fun trying and you will get the hang of it. scissoring is and spinning out of/swapping on rails is pretty easy once you can ride a rail comfortably

Depends how much time you REALLY put into it. Every rail trick I've ever learned has been the result of hiking a rail and working til I got it. You can ski hot laps on jumps and learn new stuff. I'm not convinced that's the same with rails.

oh and use the inside edge of your front ski to grip the rail to scissor. to spin frontside dip your heel down and to spin backside dip your toe down and remember to turn your head and shoulders in the direction you want to spin on/off the rail

Really dependent on what foot forward you slide with as well as the trick. I learned how to scissor for frontside spins/switch ups fairly early as all it requires is that you press the inside edge of your leading foot against the rail as hard as possible and youll notice your nose will tilt upward. Blindside spins are a bit harder for me as I have to spin un naturally but for those you press your leading skis inside tip edge against the rail and your tip will tilt down. I've been trying to learn blind side change ups and then scissor for a pretzel 270 out but it's more difficult because I have to scissor my leading ski which in the case following a Bs change up is unnatural. You'll learn all of the different methods eventually it just takes a lot of time.

Anywhere from first try to never. Depends on how long it takes you. (give or take of course)

For my I got front sides down under 3 tries, backsides however took a while, but now that I can do both backsides are a lot easier.

Yeah well for me, what really helped was taping a pair of scissors on both of my thighs EVERY SINGLE TIME i went skiing. By the second week , their inner spirits have awakened and since then scissoring is now a piece of cake.

I always thought you used your back foot to initiate the spin. Ive had some good luck picking my rear heel up to spin myself forward. ( I slide left foot forward.)
