I don't know if it's a long time, i googled without too much help, but it normally takes pretty much realtime to create a full length movie. Seems like its too long. I'm using toast 8 on my macbook pro.

for me it doesnt take long at all like an hour for the whole process, which is rip the rented dvd to the computer then burn it. But if you arent just copying it might be different.

I really dont know why it took so long. depends on the file size i guess. I think because it was .avi it may have taken longer.

Yeah, format conversion and drive write speed play a big role in burning things to a disk.

Have you considered hooking your computer up to a tv?

I recently put First! and another skimovie on dvd, two ,seperate discs, and burning + converting to dvd took about 3.5h

My family barely watches tv, = we have like, a 15 year old non-hd tv. Barely worth it.

I just think that a macbook pro should be able to write movies faster than its doing right now.

I was thinking it was your drive write speed, but now that other people say they have the same setup and are going faster I dunno.

What speed are your DVD's? They may be limiting your write speed. Also, do you have your settings set to max write speed with a full buffer? If you have it at some other setting it could be slowing things down.

what's the easiest way to do this?

ripping from a dvd with handbrake took me a bit over an hour last time I tried it.
