How hard is a backflip?

I’ve heard that backflipping is actually pretty easy it is just all about commitment but I’m not sure if I actually believe that. So how hard is it really to learn backflips?

I can backie off like everything

-swingsets

-tampolines

-diving boards/cliffs

Im yet to send one on skis tho. I've done front flips and landed them. Not my favorite tbh. I Land clean but they're low-key scary as hell!

Idk I think I watched too many Jerry of the Day videos where Jerry under rotates and dies... I need a good "push" :(

if you can do them off all those other things you would land one first try on skis.

idk what I'm afraid of honestly.

If I hit one this weekend ill post it here

Super easy dood. I tried my first one off a windlip into a little bit of pow and bailed out after not really visualizing what I was going to see. Hiked up and landed my second attempt. Went back to the tramps and started trying backflips everywhere (in water, on diving boards, on the floor etc), then landed my first one off a 15fter easy. Did about a million more that day no worries.

What I'm trying to say is that visualizing is the key and if you can backflip easily elsewhere you'll be fine. My homie who was with me was a gymnast and as he said, if I set it and get into my tuck I'll be fine and he's right. Just get your hips and knees popping up and tuck and you'll be fine. They're probably easier than 3's tbh.

Despite belly flopping on my first attempt, I will say they are pretty easy to get around with a good jump. My issue was finding the right balance between over/under rotating. Landing at a downhill angle is weird if you've only ever landed level (trampoline, flat airbag, etc.). Also, commit 115% because 100% isn't enough for your first one.

I've always wanted to try one into powder, but spinning was something i was more interested in learning. I can dub backie on a tramp tho.

Learn on a trampoline first, I can not emphasize this enough, THIS IS ESSENTIAL, it will help with your commitment and your eye for landing. Look up a tutorial on how to do it.

I disagree. A tramp is totally not necessary, although it does tend to help. Tbh it's definitely easiest to learn a backflip into water, like off a boat or a small ledge. Trampolines still hurt if you land on your neck where water doesn't really hurt at all from a small height. I have a friend who learned his first backflip on skis and has still never tried one on a tramp

Very true I forgot about flipping into water. It would probably be best to learn a backflip first into water than on a trampoline. Because the doing into water will teach you to commit and it will teach you the flip. After water then you go on a tramp because it teaches you the landing. Thats crazy friend the backflip down without any experience I would have landed on my head or something like that lol.

ITS REALLY HARD requires year of training. I have been skiing for 15 year and tryed one and landed right on my neck was out for a season.

The smart idea is just no think about trying one fr.

I can flip on a trampoline but on Skis I dont know if a jump is big enough or too big or too small so I never try and I dont want to mess up my body doing one.

I had the luxury of an airbag to try flips on before snow, but if there isn't one for you to use, you might as well try them off like a diving board or on a trampoline. Just the muscle memory of how to set (don't sling your head back, pop on takeoff and lead with your hips. They're really not that difficult, and you should go for it the next time you have a soft landing.

Flipping into water freaks me out but tramp definitely helps. Neither are necessary though imo. I think in terms of sheer technicality a 3 is probably more difficult than a backy, a backy is just way scarier. Send it, commit, pop, and spot the landing and you will stomp it no problem. Everyone remembers their first, its a great feeling. Just make sure you pop and be upside down at the apex of your jump - don’t just lean back off the lip because you’ll just hit your head and not come around
